8 in 10 Americans Think the Economy Stinks – At Least for Now

Posted in Economy , Financial News

A new poll released by CNN says that 80 percent of Americans think that economic conditions are poor. However, according to the report, while this may sound bad, the number is actually a 13 percent decline from last December. The remaining 20 percent of those polled believe economic conditions are good.

Data from the Report

In addition to noting the bad state of the economy, those polled were also asked how they felt the economy would look one year from now. Fifty-eight percent say they believe the economy will be in good shape a year from now.
Some other data from the report includes:

  • 57 percent feel that economic recovery should be a higher priority for the Obama administration than deficit reduction
  • 75 percent say that reducing unemployment should take precedence over the deficit
  • 45 percent believe there is too little government regulation of the stock market and other financial institutions
  • 60 percent say financial institutions have too much influence over the Obama administration

What Do You Think?

Of the 1,160 American polled for the study, a good majority thinks that the economy isn’t in the best shape now, but has great room for recovery in the coming year. So what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the economic state and other thoughts about the best way to recover from unemployment and challenged financial markets?
