Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union Offers Checking Account with Cash Back

Posted in Banking , Checking Accounts , Rates

Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU) offers a free checking account. There are no requirements to keep a minimum balance or have a direct deposit – it’s just free.

Not only is the account itself free, but so are the checkbooks (as long as you order online), online access, and mobile account management. Most importantly, the bank offers 10 cents back on every debit card purchase you make. This can add up quickly if you purchase a lot of small items. But don’t try to trick the bank: if you intentionally go out and make 100 debit card charges for 1 cent each, you’re not getting $10 cashback: the bank will review unusual transactions and may even cancel your card.

Of course you also get overdraft protection and a small interest of 0.15% a year. If you’re looking for higher interest, consider savings or money market accounts.

This is an excellent opportunity for residents of South Central Texas, especially for those who like to deal with a small community credit union rather than a large national bank.
