In July 2009, SFGI Direct was offering a competitive 2.25% APY on its savings account then suspended accepting new applications in August. The bank is nowre-offering it's special rate; however, there are new conditions associated with opening an account.
Previously, an account could be opened with $25, but the new minimum opening deposit is $500. Also, you are only allowed to link to one external account (previously, this option was unlimited).
Many of the conditions for the account are still the same:
- Minimum balance to earn interest $1
- No monthly service charges
- Free electronic transfers
- Initial deposit cannot exceed $25,000
- FDIC insured
