As if bingeing your favorite shows wasn’t rewarding enough, now you can even earn cash back for doing so, through select credit card companies.
While not all companies offer such entertaining perks, several of them have figured out that the way to people’s hearts and wallets is through their TVs and tablets. Here’s a look at which cards will best support your streaming habit.
This versatile credit card offers cash back on a number of services (including streaming subscriptions) and rewards you for your favorite shows. You get 6% cash back on U.S. streaming services.
While the complete list can be found at Amex, you’ll be thrilled to know it includes such popular services as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Spotify and YouTube TV — to name a few. There is a $95 annual fee for this card (See Rates & Fees).
You do need to set up your Amex Blue Cash Preferred card to automatically debit your payments for these services if you want to take advantage of that reward.
Amazon Prime Card
Amazon keeps finding ways to reward its Prime members (which does come with an annual fee of $119). With its Prime Card, cardholders can get 5% cash back on purchases — including any of its streaming subscription services (HBO, Paramount Plus, PBS Kids, Showtime, Starz and its own Prime Video). The cashback points will be available in your Amazon account and can be redeemed at the time of purchase.
Not only can you get 3% cash back with Apple Card on its subscription services, you don’t even have to carry around a physical card; you can store your card in your iPhone’s Apple Wallet, and you don’t have to pay any additional fees. Hook this card up to all your favorite Apple services — including Apple TV+, Apple Music and iCloud — in addition to channels such as ESPN, HBO, Hulu, Showtime and more.
Capital One SavorOne Rewards
Capital One’s SavorOne Rewards card offers 3% cash back on select streaming services — including Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ — with no annual fee. In addition, right now, those with excellent credit can qualify for a one-time $200 cash bonus if they spend $500 in the first three months. If you want to upgrade to the Savor Card, there is a $95 annual fee — but it bumps your cash back up to 4%.
Every quarter, Chase Bank’s Freedom Flex card offers the option to select “bonus category” merchants where you can earn 5% cash back for every dollar you spend (with a limit of $1,500 per quarter).
They’ve expanded their bonus merchants to include streaming services. While these merchants may change from quarter to quarter, according to Upgraded Points, services that have been on the list include such popular ones as Apple Music, Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify and YouTube.
If you’re looking for a card with no annual fee that also earns you cash back, CNET recommends the US Bank Cash Plus Visa card as possibly your best bet. It allows cardholders the option to choose two categories where they can earn up to 5% cash back each quarter on up to $2,000 in purchases. Streaming is one of the options you can choose. Services include Disney+, FandangoNow, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify — to name a few.
