    You should probably clarify that buying municipal bonds is VASTLY DIFFERENT than buying into bond FUNDS as part of your 401(k) plan. Bond funds as part of your plan is a drain on your assets.

    Using the rule of thumb is ridiculous and outdated. Not just because interest rates are low. Life expectancy, or longevity, has changed the rules. Also, buying stocks just because they pay dividends isn’t necessarily the best solution. Total return should be the goal. Many dividend stocks aren’t always great and they can stop paying at any time
