These 11 Major Companies Allow You to Work From Home

Employers have long expected their employees to be flexible. Now the pendulum has begun to swing the other way as workers expect employers to be flexible about work sites. Many companies now offer work-from-home jobs. In fact, about 22 percent of employees in the U.S. did some or all of their work from home in 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

If you’re in the market for part-time jobs from home, online jobs or simply work-from-home flexibility, then this job roundup list is for you. A number of companies, including big names like Apple and Amazon, offer remote positions.

1. Aetna

Number of employees: 49,500
Work-from-home positions include: Certified Coder/Auditor, Proposal Writer, Community Development Coordinator

Healthcare and benefits provider Aetna believes in flexible work environments. Many of the company’s jobs can be conducted 100 percent remotely or a combination of remote and on-site. Some remote jobs require you to live in a specific location. For example, a community development coordinator position Aetna recently advertised is completely virtual, but the employee must live in Pennsylvania. The job requires you to develop and facilitate outreach activities, special events, programs and presentations to increase awareness of health plans available in the community.

2. Amazon

Number of employees: 541,900
Work-from-home positions include: Work From Home Customer Service Associate, Japanese-Fluent Work From Home Customer Service Associate–U.S., Virtual Customer Service Associate CPT

Amazon had close to 200 work-from-home jobs — “virtual jobs” as they like to call them — when GOBankingRates conducted a job search. To qualify for some of these online jobs you have to live in a particular area.

For example, the Japanese-Fluent Work From Home Customer Service Associate must live in one of the states specified on the job description to be considered. The job requires offering support by phone or chat message to Amazon customers. Candidates should be internet savvy and have aptitude in online research and tools.

3. American Express

Number of employees: 56,400
Work-from-home positions include: Travel Counselor, Consultant Business Development

The company whose slogan is “Don’t leave home without it” also supports work-from-home jobs. As a Travel Counselor you will interact with the most affluent card members, consult with them about their travel needs and make recommendations based on their requirements. American Express frequently coaches virtual employees to help them develop and hone their skills.

4. Apple

Imagine being the Apple representative from your own living space. As Apple puts it, a Home Advisor is the “friendly, thoughtful, and real” person that people will contact for help. Like many jobs from home, you must be able to stay on task, especially because you’ll be the tech support guru for popular products such as iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and desktop Macs.

5. Dell

Like Amazon and Apple, Dell also offers opportunities to work remotely for a major technology company. Some virtual positions are designed for specific areas, such as the Systems Consultant job with Dell’s Global Computer and Networking organization in Iowa. Employees in this position work in conjunction with the sales team to create sales strategies based on customer requirements and discoveries.

6. Hilton Worldwide

Do you want an at-home job that gives you some work-life balance? Hilton Worldwide is looking for remote sales specialists for part-time work. You’ll be responsible for answering calls, listening to customer needs and matching those needs to a Hilton accommodation. You’ll also be expected to meet daily goals.

7. Humana

Work-from-home positions include: Technology Business Analyst, Enterprise Technology Project Manager, HR Business Partner

Humana is one of the largest health insurance providers in the country, with about 12 million medical members. The Louisville, Ky.-based company also supports work-from-home jobs.

The Technology Business Analyst position is a remote job open to anyone in the U.S. and is a good fit for someone with IT experience. In this role, you work with business and IT partners in analyzing problems and needs, documenting the processes and proposing solutions.

8. Kelly Services

This global staffing and workforce solutions company has ongoing openings for Inbound Call Center Advisors. To qualify, you need good phone etiquette and the ability to work comfortably from home. According to the job posting, Tier 1 advisors make $13 to $15 an hour and must have a high school degree or equivalent.
