How can you support Latinx-owned small businesses? Linda Granillo, owner of BeautieSocial, shares with GOBankingRates some of her favorite ways to support Latinx-owned businesses besides the obvious of purchasing directly from them.

Use Social Media To Share More About Latinx-Owned Businesses

Start spreading the word about the Latinx-owned business on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. 

“If you’re a fan of Instagram, repost (with permission) an image you enjoy from the business or add it to your IG Story,” Granillo said. “Or if you purchased a product, share more about it on TikTok or Facebook.”

Posting on social media platforms, and tagging the Latinx-owned business in your content, allows your followers to learn more about what the business has to offer. This acts as a call to action for fans to check out the business and helps create more visibility and exposure for the business and its leadership.

Recommend the Business

Small businesses benefit significantly from positive word of mouth. Tell your friends and family about a Latinx business you love or recommend a product you use, Granillo said. Friends and family may take you up on your recommendation and start purchasing products and services from the Latinx-owned business, referring even more potential customers through word of mouth.

Additionally, write positive reviews about these businesses on crowdsourced websites such as Yelp and Trustpilot. Write how you liked the product or service and recommend it. This helps Latinx-owned businesses become top localized searches for their products and services and builds their credibility and visibility. 

Request Latinx Business Visibility

The next time you’re at a small business event or a networking night, take a look around the room or space. Is there diversity in speakers and attendees? If there isn’t, you have the power to change this.

“If you’re attending a live or virtual event and notice no diversity in the speakers or exhibitors,” Granillo said, “shoot an email to the organizer requesting it.”

Attend Latinx-Geared Events

You don’t have to be Latina or Latino to attend a Latinx geared pop-up or event, Granillo said. Stop by, patronize the businesses and enjoy your time there.

While you’re there, consider posting about the event on social media. Take photos and videos. Tag the event’s social media handle, if one is provided or the event has social media pages. Use any relevant hashtags provided at the event to connect with other attendees and spread further awareness about the event with your followers.

Stay connected with even more Latinx-owned businesses and people via social media. Granillo recommends checking out some Latinx small business hashtags, including #shoplatinx #latinxowned and #latinaownedbusiness.
