As states are setting new daily records for coronavirus cases, president-elect Joe Biden is gearing up to tackle the pandemic. He recently announced the members of his COVID-19 task force — a team that is responsible for taming the beast known as the novel coronavirus.
In these unprecedented times, however, the news is not all bad. Other, more positive, records are being set by companies, like Etsy. The worldwide marketplace, which offers unique, and often handmade goods, tripled its stock by the end of October, up 199%.
And not surprisingly, much of the site’s shopping activity has centered on an item that has become as commonplace as shoes or belts — face masks. In July, Esty’s face mask sales were at $123 million. And even as face-covering offerings exploded among retailers and other vendors, Esty sales in this category still raked in an impressive $56 million in September.
There are plenty of other companies that have done well this year, as the venerable stock index continues to set record highs in the face of a pandemic. And while that does have plenty of veteran market watchers scratching their heads, the fact remains that many investors are making money even as America continues to grapple with a generational crisis.
So which companies appear to be capitalizing on uncertain times? Take a look at how these stocks performed in 2020.
