Fans of Optimus Prime are once again flocking to theaters to see humans battle machines in “Transformers: The Last Knight,” which premiered on June 21.
After a long string of disappointing flops in 2016, Paramount is betting big on the fifth installment of the “Transformers” franchise. According to IMDB, it’s the most expensive Transformers movie to date, with a production budget of $260 million. Fans can expect to see plenty of familiar faces and also meet a few new “Transformers” characters. Here’s a look at how much the “Transformers” movies and their casts are worth.
Transforming Movies Into Dollars
The four “Transformers” movies that have been released so far — not including “Transformers: The Movie” from 1986 — grossed more than $3.7 billion worldwide. Each film in the series averaged a $630-million haul on its own. In terms of total box office grosses, it is the No. 17 highest-earning franchise in history, but a strong showing by “The Last Knight” could boost it even higher on the list.
Here’s what each film earned at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo:
- “Transformers” (2007): $709.7 million
- “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009): $836.3 million
- “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” (2011): $1.12 billion
- “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014): $1.1 billion
Michael Bay Net Worth: $430 Million
Michael Bay’s movies are, in a word, big. His directorial credits include massive summer blockbusters like “Armageddon,” “Bad Boys,” “Pearl Harbor” and, of course, the “Transformers” franchise. He also has an impressive list of credits as a producer. The movies he has directed have grossed more than $5.8 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, with billions more coming from films he produced and executive produced.
Mark Wahlberg Net Worth: $225 Million
Leading the cast is Mark Wahlberg, who returns as widower and doting father Cade Yeager. Wahlberg’s franchise debut was in “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” released in 2014.
Although his salary for the film is unknown, Walhberg earned $68 million over the course of the year from June 2016 to June 2017, according to Forbes. A multi-talented former rapper, Wahlberg’s films have grossed $5.3 billion worldwide.
Anthony Hopkins Net Worth: $160 Million
“Transformers” fans are buzzing about the arrival of Anthony Hopkins, who joins the franchise as a character named Sir Edmund Burton. One of Hollywood’s most prolific actors, Hopkins has more than 130 acting credits to his name. His movies have earned nearly $4.6 billion at the global box office.
Tyrese Gibson Net Worth: $25 Million
Tyrese Gibson informed his fans through Instagram that he’d be returning to the franchise in his role as Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Robert Epps. A franchise mainstay, Gibson appeared in the first three “Transformers” installments.
Much of the combined $7.5 billion his movies have earned at the global box office can be credited to the “Transformers” films, but his biggest movies are from another highly successful action franchise: “The Fast and the Furious.”
Stanley Tucci Net Worth: $25 Million
Stanley Tucci’s character, Joshua Joyce, returns to the franchise after debuting in 2014’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” A brilliant inventor, Joshua Joyce flipped loyalties after initially partnering with the Autobots.
Tucci’s movies have taken in almost $8.2 billion at the global box office. He’s scored roles not just in the “Transformers” series, but also in the wildly successful “Hunger Games” franchise and Disney’s 2017 live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast.” Twenty of his movies have earned more than $100 million globally, and two have earned more than $1 billion worldwide.
Shia LaBeouf Net Worth: $25 Million
Although he played the lead role in the first three “Transformers” movies, Shia LaBeouf was noticeably missing from the 2014 installment of the series and won’t have a role in “The Last Knight.” In 2011, LaBeouf announced he was quitting the franchise, which has been enormously profitable even when widely panned by critics.
The “Transformers” franchise has provided LeBeouf with his most profitable films. In all, his movies have earned more than $5 billion at the worldwide box office.
John Turturro Net Worth: $24 Million
A major player in the top secret “Sector 7” group, Agent Simmons, played by John Turturro, has appeared in all but one of the “Transformers” movies. Turturro has racked up more than 100 acting credits, dating back to “Raging Bull” in 1980. One of his most famous roles was playing Jesus Quintana in “The Big Lebowski.”
Since John Goodman is also returning to the “Transformers” franchise, “The Last Knight” has been dubbed a “Big Lebowski” reunion.
Josh Duhamel Net Worth: $15 Million
Josh Duhamel is a “Transformers” franchise veteran. His character Lt. Colonel William Lennox has appeared in every film except “Age of Extinction.” A star of both the big and small screens with nearly 40 acting credits, Duhamel’s films have grossed more than $3 billion at the worldwide box office, more than half of which is thanks to the “Transformers” movies.
Peter Cullen Net Worth: $6 Million
Peter Cullen has been the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime since 1984, when the original animated TV series was released. The franchise has been good to Cullen. He’s provided voice work not just for the original TV show, the original 1986 movie and every film in the modern franchise, but he’s also scored work on more than a dozen shorts, videos and video games.
Mitch Pileggi Net Worth: $3 Million
Mitch Pileggi has enjoyed crossover success on both the big and small screens with nearly 100 acting credits in his career. Now, he’s joining the “Transformers” franchise. Neither Pileggi nor the film’s producers have revealed his role, but the actor did confirm on Twitter that he will appear in the movie.
Laura Haddock Net Worth: Unknown
British actress Laura Haddock will make her “Transformers” debut as Vivian Wembley. Although Haddock is new to the series, she’s no stranger to big-budget, high-earning movie franchises. She’s had roles in movies from both the “Captain America” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchises.
Santiago Cabrera Net Worth: Unknown
Santiago Cabrera is also new to the “Transformers” franchise. He’ll make his debut in “The Last Knight” as a character named Santos, who is part of a group of human bad guys called TRF. Cabrera’s 26 acting credits are mostly for small-screen successes like “Empire,” “Heroes” and “Dexter.”
