Phoenix’s acting career dates back to the early ’80s when he made a few small appearances on several TV series, including “Hill Street Blues” and “Murder, She Wrote.” Although he started to land bigger roles on TV and in film, Phoenix decided to take a break from acting for a few years, and returned to the big screen in 1995’s “To Die For.”

He reached new levels of fame in 2000 when he starred in “Gladiator,” which earned him his first Oscar nomination. The movie was also a box office hit, grossing $465 million worldwide, according to IMDbPro. Phoenix has since earned three more Oscar nominations: for 2005’s “Walk the Line,” 2012’s “The Master” and 2019’s “Joker.” He won his first Academy Award for “Joker,” which is also his most successful move in terms of box office revenue — the film grossed a whopping $1.07 billion worldwide.

Phoenix is next set to appear in the films “C’mon C’mon” and “Kitbag.” There are also rumors that Phoenix may appear in two “Joker” sequels as part of a $50 million deal with Warner Bros., the Daily Mirror reported.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Real Estate

Adding to Phoenix’s net worth are his real estate holdings. The actor owns two properties in California’s Hollywood Hills: a $4.835 million home he purchased in 2006 and a $1.39 million home he purchased in 2013. The properties are next door to each other, Trulia reported.

In April 2020, Phoenix sold a New York City loft he co-owned with fellow actor Casey Affleck for $3.135 million, People reported.
