Summer is coming to a close, which means the return of the pumpkin spice latte is near. This delicious fall drink is offered by many retailers, but the Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte is arguably the leader of the pack. Your wait for the return of the popular drink won’t be too long, though; Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte will be officially available nationwide on Sept. 8.
For anyone not familiar with this beverage, the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte is an espresso drink made with milk, pumpkin spice flavored sauce, whipped cream, vanilla syrup and pumpkin spice topping. The pumpkin spice latte recipe has been updated this year to include real pumpkin and eliminate caramel coloring, swapping it for fruit and vegetable juices instead.
Panera Bread has also adjusted its pumpkin spice latte recipe to include real pumpkin. According to a press release, Panera’s “real” pumpkin latte doesn’t have any artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives.
How to Save Money on Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes
Starbucks’ prices for its pumpkin spice latte (PSL) vary by location. But Kendal Perez, a savings expert from CouponSherpa.com, said it’s possible to save money on the popular drink with a little savvy thinking. She advises customers to use their Starbucks Rewards Card to earn points that can be redeemed for free drinks. Plus, new subscribers and green and gold level members are eligible for a free birthday drink, so you’re in luck if your birthday falls during pumpkin spice latte season.
Perez also suggests bringing your own cup, as Starbucks offers a 10-cent discount to anyone with a reusable mug or tumbler. She also advises customers to get a little creative by ordering a Venti-sized beverage and asking for an extra cup to split with a friend to cut costs in half.
While this year’s Starbucks deals for the holiday season have yet to be announced, Perez recommends looking out for them. “Starbucks typically features a holiday offer, which can help you and a friend save on PSLs and other specialty holiday drinks,” she said. “Last year, Starbucks offered Rewards members buy-one-get-one-free holiday drinks from Nov.12-16 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.”
