Although it’s not yet official, the weather says that summer is here. From the beach to the deck to the barbecue, you’re probably shopping around for some new gear. Fortunately, you might only need to shop at one store: Costco.
Costco delivers enticing offers on summer merchandise of all stripes. GOBankingRates talked to three experts who shared some of the very best Costco deals that you can enjoy even before summer officially arrives.
Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair: $39.99
Every summer brings a new-and-improved beach chair. How are you supposed to know which ones are ingenious and which ones are gimmicks? Easy. Just follow Costco’s lead.
“Costco’s claim to fame is how they sift through all the stuff in the marketplace and select the best products for their members at the best prices,” said Pamela N. Danziger, a market researcher who founded Unity Marketing, and who appeared on CNBC’s documentary, “Costco Craze.”
This Tommy Bahama beach chair is a perfect example. The aluminum frame makes it strong but light, and its clever design includes a pillow. When you’ve had enough sun, simply fold it up and wear it like a backpack. The same model chair recently listed on Amazon for $54.88.
Don’t Miss: 20 Deals You Can Only Get at Costco
Pit Boss Ceramic BBQ Grill: $749.99
If it’s summertime, it’s time to get your grill on. Anyone who’s shopped for grills this season knows that ceramic grills and wood-fired smokers are hot ticket items. The Pit Boss kamado-style grill and smoker has an MSRP of $899, according to the manufacturer’s website.
Yet Costco can sell it for nearly $150 less than the brand manufacturer. How? Discounts like these are thanks to Costco’s “buying power and logistical savvy,” according to Danziger.
Coleman 100-Quart Xtreme Wheeled Cooler: $74.99
So many coolers to choose from, so many better things to do than spend a day researching them. Lucky for you, Costco already took care of that.
“Costco does all the work in advance and its members enjoy the benefits of their customized selections,” Danziger said. This big boy from Coleman holds 160 cans and keeps ice cold for five days. You’d pay $109.99 for it at specialty retailer Cabela’s.
Vornado V-Flow Whole Room Tower Circulator Fan: $79.99
Whether you’re suffering without air conditioning or just looking for something to supplement your window unit, a good fan is a crucial part of a comfortable summer.
“We rarely see this name-brand appliance go on sale, especially this early in the season,” Glaser said. He added that it’s “a worthwhile buy if you’re looking for a whole-room fan before the mercury really starts rising.”
Amazon recently listed the same fan for $98.92.
X-Kites Dory Deluxe Triwinder Kite: $9.99
For kids and adult kids alike, this whimsical kite features the characters from “Finding Dory.” It only takes a few minutes to assemble, and it’s built to last with a sturdy fiberglass frame. It comes with a 25-foot line and is rated for wind up to 18 mph. You’d pay $16.40 for this kite on eBay.
Annin ′4×6′ American Flag With 8-Foot Spinner Pole: $179.99
Costco sells a variety of flags, but this is no one-summer-and-done item.
“What better way to support our great country than by displaying a great big flag?” Danziger asked. “Costco offers a professional-grade flagpole that is popular with small businesses and municipal buildings like fire houses. But it lets regular folks make a big statement, too.”
Home Depot sells the exact same model of Old Glory for $185.39.
Tommy Bahama All Terrain Beach Cart: $59.99
The beach is great. Hauling your gear back and forth is not. Furthermore, not all beach carts are created equal.
“I love the beach, but lugging all the stuff you need to take along to make your day pleasant is a chore,” Danziger said. “This beach cart, from Tommy Bahama, a brand that epitomizes beach living, makes that chore a breeze. It looks sturdy enough for years of use, and folds down to make it easy to store for next year.”
Amazon sells an identical cart for $79.49.
Ninja 1,000-Watt Blender: $69.99
Summer is the time for frozen drinks in big, drippy glasses. Costco offers a variety of heavy duty blenders for less than the competition, including a powerful three-speed Ninja.
“This Ninja blender is the baby brother of the Ninja Kitchen System blender that Costco sells for $179.99,” Danziger said. “It’s powerful enough to blend all the summer drink favorites, milkshakes for the kids and margaritas for the parents, but without the extra doodads of the premium model.”
At Best Buy, the same blender costs $99.99.
Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen Set: $12.99
Going through summer without enough sunscreen is just asking for trouble, but Costco has you covered — literally.
“Sunscreen is an absolute summer essential,” Danziger said. “And this three-piece set includes both convenient spray and lotion to give high-intensity 50 SPF protection for everyone in the family all summer long.”
The same set goes for $22.95 plus $5.60 shipping on Amazon.
Celestron AstroMaster Reflector Telescope: $189.99
Few things are more relaxing than peering into the distant summer sky through your very own backyard telescope. At Costco, you can score a heavy duty reflector for under $200.
“Get ready for this summer’s Perseid meteor shower, which will be extra spectacular this year as it coincides with the passing of Comet Swift-Tuttle from July 17 to Aug. 24,” Danziger said. “The peak viewing time will be around Aug. 12. This telescope will be a great educational tool for kids and fun for parents and grandparents, too.”
Celestron sells this telescope for $279.95.
Coleman 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent: $189.99
Whether you’re truly venturing out into the Great Outdoors or just pitching a tent in the backyard, summer is camping season. You can save big by shopping at Costco.
You can get this tent for about $80 cheaper than what competitors offer, which alone can make the membership worth it. Go in on this Costco deal with nine of your friends, and you’ll each spend less than $20 for what Sara Skirboll, a shopping and trends expert at RetailMeNot, called “a long-lasting camping necessity.”
Otherwise, you can buy this tent on Amazon for $271.49, plus $37.21 shipping.
Exaco Beach Cabana Sandbox and Playhouse: $289.99
You love summer, but you’ll love it a lot more if you can earn yourself some downtime by keeping the kids occupied. That should be easy with this souped-up sandbox.
“The almost $100 in savings (in comparison to the same item at Toys“R”Us) is enough to cover the membership fee and still have enough to buy sand and tools for the kids,” Skirboll said.
Cuisinart Cool Creations 2-Quart Ice Cream Maker: $89.99
If one single food embodies everything that makes summer great, it’s ice cream. Why go out for ice cream when you can have fun making it at home for less?
“Costco is a great retailer in that they are able to offer quality goods for well below retail prices,” Skirboll said. “Buying this ice cream maker from Costco gives you instant savings of 25 percent. You’ll also save in the long run by not spending $2 to $5 on individual ice cream cones.”
Bed, Bath and Beyond sells the exact same ice cream maker for $119.95.
Step 2 Beachside Splash Sand and Water Table: $46.99
Perfect for hot days, this fun station can help your kids stay cool and entertained. It’s also a great deal.
“Normally when something goes on sale, it’s seen as a huge steal,” Skirboll said. “This play table is an example of a steal that is available all the time. Even while on sale, Costco offers the same product for less.”
The same set lists on Amazon for $68.36.
ECOXGEAR EcoSlate Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker: $89.99
“Costco is great about offering savings on grocery, toiletries and home and office supplies,” Skirboll said. “But they also offer savings on electronics. Sixty dollars in savings on a waterproof Bluetooth speaker valued at $150 creates a significant amount of savings.”
At Home Depot, you can expect to pay $149.99 for the same speaker.
Bestway Tiki Breeze Floating Island: $169.99
It’s time to take your pool lounge game to the next level, and the Tiki Breeze is the pinnacle of all inflatable, floating thrones. It seats seven people, and has six cupholders, two built-in ice buckets and a suntan deck. Bonus: It’s puncture-resistant, too.
This is also available at Walmart for $229.
Zuru Bunch O Balloons Water Balloons (350-Pack): $19.99
Water balloon fights are a cheap and fun summer activity — and definitely the king of summer yard games. They are, however, a single-use item, which means you should get them where they’re cheap.
They’re cheap at Costco.
“Keep the kids entertained and cool this summer with water balloons,” Skirboll said. “For the savings you get from Costco, you have nearly enough to double the balloons to double the fun.”
At Walmart, you’ll pay $32.86 for this item.
Chillax Double Travel Hammock: $29.99
Two people can chill out comfortably all summer long in this light, portable hammock, which comes with an integrated suspension. Set up is easy, no knots are required.
A recent Costco sale took $6 off the price, to $23.99. But even if you missed the sale, the Costco full price is a lot lower than actual full price. On its own website, Chillax sells the hammock for a few pennies under $70.
