While housing prices continue to rise beyond the reach of some families in the United States, there are bright spots across the country. In fact, there are many places where you can find luxury homes for $100,000 or less.

One good spot to look for these luxury houses is in the Midwest. Not only is this area of the country generally known for its safety and polite people, housing markets in various cities across the Midwest remain affordable for families.

Here’s a look at five Midwest cities where you could find a luxury home for $100,000 or less.

Toledo, Ohio

According to Homebuyer, “Toledo, Ohio, is an affordable city with something for everyone.” Toledo received a 99.82% affordability score from Homebuyer, which looked at the monthly costs for homeownership.

You’ll likely find a good number of homes on the market here — and the average monthly mortgage payment is about $932.

Canton, Ohio

Here’s another city to check out for luxury homes for less in Ohio. Not only is Canton an affordable and busy city, but it also features low property taxes. Homebuyer gives Canton a 99.25% affordability score.

Springfield, Illinois

The capital city of Illinois offers a good housing market in a city known for combining the best of small-town life with big-city extras. It received a 99.22 affordability score from Homebuyer, and the average mortgage payment here is about $1,104.

Detroit

The Motor City is known for its affordable housing. In fact, according to Redfin, Detroit is among the most affordable cities in the entire Midwest. The median home price here is just about $100,000 — so you can definitely score a deal on luxury if you look hard enough.

South Bend, Indiana

The home of the University of Notre Dame also offers some of the most affordable housing in Indiana and the Midwest. The median home price here is about $135,000 — but deals are easy to find if you research. Many homeowners here also enjoy visiting Chicago and the lake areas.
