The sun is shining, school is almost out, and everywhere people are getting ready to take their summer vacations. If money is tight this year, you don’t need to be left out. There are several ways to cut costs on your summer vacation, without sacrificing your vacation experience.
Rent a House…With Friends
Vacation homes are a great alternative to hotels, because you can forego expensive restaurant foods and cook yourself. A rental house can be an even better deal if you split the cost with friends or family.
Often vacation homes are big enough that each family can have plenty of space. Splitting the cost of the house and food will save each family’s budget, and splitting the cooking duties will afford everyone a chance to kick back and relax, too.
Experience the Great Outdoors
One of the best ways to vacation on the cheap is camping. If you own a tent or travel trailer, you’re already set to have a good time. Just pack up the car and go.
But even if you don’t own camping equipment, you can still experience a frugal camping vacation. Look into renting a yurt or a cabin. Many state campgrounds have inexpensive facilities, equipped with beds and barbeque grills.
Stay Home…But Have Fun Anyway
If you’re really strapped for cash this year, consider taking a staycation. See your hometown through the eyes of a tourist. Hike the local trails. Take a daytrip to a local attraction.
When you’re not paying for lodging or meals out, you have more money to spend on activities. You may walk away with a new appreciation for the place you live.
Whatever you decide to do this summer, make sure you take time to relax. Even if you lack money for a traditional vacation, a break from work is important for rejuvenation.
