Banking with Capital One has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Before I opened a bank account with Capital One, I had been a longtime credit card customer. I’ve always felt that the bank’s customer service was great, so when I saw an opportunity to open a checking account with no monthly or maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirement, I jumped at the chance.
Opening the 360 Checking account was a breeze. From my mobile phone, I provided my personal details, agreed to the terms and conditions — including paperless statements — and added an opening deposit, which was optional. A few more taps and I was done.
Many months have passed and I have chosen to continue using my Capital One account because of the flawless experience I have had.
Products and Services Used
I frequently use my Capital One 360 Checking account. I receive ACH deposits and also make mobile deposits into my checking account. Additionally, I use Zelle, which is offered in the app. I chose not to open a Capital One 360 Performance Savings account because I can get a much better rate elsewhere.
Online Experience
My online experience with my Capital One account has been great from day one. I have the Capital One app on my phone and also have Face ID set up so I can access my account in seconds.
Using Mobile Check Deposits
Depositing checks through the Capital One banking app is easy. All I do is open the app and tap on “Deposit a Check.” Next, I take a picture of the front and back of my endorsed check and enter the amount of the check to submit the deposit.
In my experience, the money from the check is available in my account by the next business day. However, Capital One provides an estimated timeline of when the funds will be available before you complete the deposit. I also love that you can easily check the status of your deposit in the app. You’ll receive email alerts when you submit the deposit and when it’s complete and the funds are available to you.
Setting Up Bill Pay
Bill pay is another great feature that you can set up right from the Capital One banking app. I use it to pay my electricity bill. There’s a search feature for payees or you have the option to enter the payee manually.
These are the steps I took to set up bill pay:
- I did a quick search for my electricity company.
- I entered the account number and ZIP code.
- I also added the nickname “Electric” to indicate the type of payment.
Capital One Bill Pay does require you to add the four-digit identifier, which took me a few minutes to locate. Now, every month, I can pay my electricity bill directly from my Capital One 360 checking account, which saves me time.
Sending, Transferring or Moving Money Between Accounts
My Capital One bank account isn’t my only checking account, so I do move money from time to time. It’s easy to transfer funds directly in the app once you have your bank account connected. Here’s how:
- I select “Transfer Money.” Then I choose the account I want to transfer from and to.
- I enter the amount and frequency. This could be “one time,” “weekly” or “monthly.”
- Once you set up the transfer, the app will tell you how long it will likely take to transfer the money. For example, if you set up a transfer for Monday, Aug. 15, the app says it will typically arrive by Thursday, Aug. 18.
Capital One also works with Zelle, which I use if I need to transfer money in minutes.
Other Features of the Capital One App
The Capital One app is one of my favorite banking apps. It’s super easy to access and my phone’s home screen shows my current account balance for both my credit cards and my checking account.
Another one of my favorite features is my free credit score from CreditWise. I also keep this displayed on my phone’s home screen, so I can easily keep track of it. I can also access my TransUnion credit report to see how my credit is progressing.
