If obtaining a new car loan is on your mind and Toyota is among your list of options, you may want to wait since the manufacturer announced its recall of 1.5 million vehicles worldwide. This is one of many recalls announced by Toyota in the past year and is one of the largest the manufacturer has announced to date.

Around 20 Models Recalled

Toyota announced on Wednesday that it would be recalling more than 1.5 million vehicles worldwide for issues that could result in fuel leakage. The recall affects 1.2 million units of 16 models, including the Noah and other models, within Japan. Also, the company is recalling Avensis and Tourer models overseas.

As for models that are sold in the United States, the following have been recalled:

  • 2006 through 2007 Lexus GS300/350
  • 2006 through early 2009 Lexus IS250
  • 2006 through early 2008 Lexus IS 350

Around 245,000 vehicles have been affected in the U.S. According to the company’s statement, the recall for these vehicles was issued for insufficient tightening of a fuel pressure sensor that could loosen over time.

What to Do If Your Model Was Recalled

The statement said that Lexus dealers will need to inspect the vehicle for fuel leakage. If none is found, the dealer will tighten the fuel pressure sensor with the proper torque, and if fuel leakage is confirmed, the gasket between the sensor and delivery pipe will need to be replaced, followed by sensor tightening with the proper torque.

Toyota recommends all inspections and repairs will be conducted at no charge to the vehicle owner.

If you are in the market for a Lexus, consider whether a recalled vehicle is smart to purchase so that you don’t find yourself making a risky purchase.
