Good Friday 2025 takes place on Friday, April 18, and many Americans will observe the day by fasting and attending a religious service. But that doesn’t mean it’s a traditional bank holiday. Here’s what you need to know about banking hours on Good Friday.

Are Banks Open on Good Friday?

As Good Friday is not considered a federal or bank holiday, most public services — including post offices, schools, libraries and banks — typically remain open.

Most banks will remain open during their regular business hours. However, twelve states recognize Good Friday as a state holiday:

Residents of these states might find that some municipal services and businesses, as well as banks, are closed for Good Friday.

Keep in mind that those locales that observe Good Friday may have reduced hours or may be closed. It is a good idea to call your local branch to verify bank hours.

Also, the stock market will close on Good Friday, however, meaning that the Nasdaq, New York Stock Exchange and other exchanges will not be trading.

Good Friday Eve Bank Hours

Here are some banks with Good Friday eve hours:

You should always confirm with individual branches as hours can vary.

Alternative Banking Options

Even if you cannot bank in-person, you can make use of services that don’t require you to walk into the lobby. You can use an ATM to withdraw and deposit cash as well as make balance inquiries.

Some retail stores may offer check cashing services which can be convenient when your bank is closed. Also, money orders or bill pay may also be available at these retail stores.

If you need to transfer funds, check balances or contact customer service, you can always log in to online banking or the bank’s app.

When Banks Reopen After Good Friday

The day after Good Friday falls on a Saturday. Most banks will have limited in-person services on Saturday morning. Check with your local branch to find out bank hours on Saturday.
