This is the first installment of our Who to Watch at FinCon12 Q&A series. We’re highlighting speakers set to take the stage at the 2012 Financial Blogger Conference, so that our readers can be exposed to a variety of voices, ideas and expertise from writers within the personal finance space — many of whom contribute to Go Banking Rates regularly.
Jim Wang is the creator and editor of Bargaineering.com, a blog that was founded in order to help readers navigate the complex world of personal finance.
Why Jim Wang Is Worth Watching at FinCon12
Area of expertise: I’d say my expertise is being able to distill complex personal finance topics in an interesting and entertaining way. I probably spend more time discussing general personal finance, investing and how to have your money work for you, rather than against you. I’m probably least strong in the frugality arena.
Looks forward to talking about most at FinCon12: I look forward to sharing ideas to help others grow their sites both in exposure and, hopefully, revenue.
Another speaker he’s particularly excited to see: I’m excited to meet all the people I’ve chatted online with over the years. It’s always fun to meet people face-to-face after having a relationship with them over e-mail, IM or in forums.
Biggest financial indulgence: Travel, like I’m doing right before the conference. I love traveling and going to new places.
Financial lesson he had to learn the hard way: I’ve been fortunately enough to avoid all the difficult lessons first hand.
If he could only give one piece of advice, it would be: Do what you love. When it’s all said and done, you want to look fondly at the challenges you faced so you better make sure they’re ones you love pursuing.
Thinks the most dangerous misconception people have about money today is: That money solves all of life’s problems.
If Jim weren’t a financial blogger, he would be writing about: Traveling or maybe cooking.![]()
