To help you determine how much you need to live within the middle class in these Midwest states, GOBankingRates took a look at the numbers and found a wide range of amounts. Read on for a breakdown of all 12 states.
Illinois

Methodology: For this piece GOBankingRates used the 2022 American Communit Survey as conducted by the US Census Bureau to isolate the median household income of all Southern states (IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD, and WI). Once those figures were found GOBankingRates was able to determine middle-class income of the state under the definition that middle-class income is two/thirds to double the income of a given area. All data was collected and is up to date as of May 6, 2024.
