Retirement doesn’t have to mean cutting corners if you know how to shop. BJ’s Wholesale Club recently made some changes that makes it even easier for retirees on a fixed income to take advantage of the deals the wholesale club has to offer.
This week, BJ’s Wholesale Club announced a partnership with Roadie, a UPS company, to offer same-day delivery of large items, including grills, patio sets and televisions, to some zip codes. Keep in mind, according to the press release, same-day delivery is limited to purchases under $750, which excludes some outdoor furniture and big-screen TVs.
BJ’s Same-Day Select service costs $14.99 per month and delivers items to your door as soon as two hours.
Additionally, BJ’s is currently offering a Groupon for a Club Card Membership for just $20 plus a $20 reward after your first $60 purchase. The normal price is $55. You can also snag a $20 membership on the BJ’s website but you won’t get the reward that, essentially, makes your first-year membership free.
If you’re an empty-nest retiree living alone or with your spouse, you may not need to buy meats, produce or even pantry staples in bulk. But it still pays to stock up on necessities like paper goods and cleaning products. Plus, you’ll find plenty of items that can enhance your life at BJ’s that aren’t sold in massively large quantities.
Vitamins
Most diets don’t provide all the nutrients we need, especially in our later years. BJ’s offers Centrum vitamins with $3 off right now, including Centrum Silver for Adults 50+, Centrum Silver Men’s and Centrum Silver Women’s. Plus earn $10 in rewards on your membership card if you buy $40 in vitamins through June 16, 2024.
Samsung TV
Make your home the place where all the grandchildren want to gather with this 85-inch Samsung OLED 4K television. Save $502 with the manufacturer clipless coupon, bringing the already-low BJ’s member price of $1199 down to $697. At this price, even retirees can splurge on a new TV.
Eyeglasses
If it’s time for new eyeglasses, you can save money shopping at BJ’s. One BJ’s Optical department on Long Island advertises single-vision eyeglasses starting at $100, while progressive lens packages start at $200. The BJ’s website showcases a “Family Savings Event,” where you can buy one pair of glasses and save $100 on a second pair.
Restaurant Gift Cards
Don’t skip dining out on your retirement budget. Purchase discounted restaurant gift cards from BJ’s and enjoy 20% off at places like Texas de Brazil, Bob Evans and Bertucci’s.
Paper Plates
Stock up on paper goods, including paper plates, at BJ’s. Grab a 220-count package of Berkley & Jensen Ultra 8.5″ paper plates for just $17. If you’d like a more fun and fashionable pattern for summer, these Berkley & Jensen Sunny Fruit 10″ paper plates in a 100-count package will serve up smiles every day, at just $15 for 100 plates.
Tires
Outfitting your car with new tires is pricier than ever. But BJ’s makes it easy with savings of $50 to $160 on select brands. If you apply for and open a BJ’s Mastercard from Capital One, you’ll also earn up to 5% back in rewards you can spend at BJ’s, and a $40 rewards bonus the first time you use the card.
Laundry Soap
Berkley & Jensen Liquid Laundry Detergent is a bestseller, and with good reason. At just $16.99 for 200 fl. oz., it’s significantly cheaper than Tide, has a great, fresh scent, and cleans your clothes just as well.
Gas
BJ’s in Farmingdale, NY, currently sells gasoline for just $3.16 a gallon for regular unleaded. That’s significantly cheaper than the New York average price of $3.61 right now, according to gasprices.aaa.com, and also lower than the national average of $3.46. Plus, save an additional 10 or 15 cents per gallon when you use your BJ’s One Mastercard or BJ’s One+ Mastercard (for Club+ Card members).
