It’s no secret that the cost of living in big-city America feels as if it’s skyrocketing, with housing prices, grocery bills and car/gas costs all seeming to feel like wallet busters when payment is due. The American housing market has been especially difficult and pricey, following the record-breaking spike in home costs in 2021 and 2022. Further, as reported by the National Association of Realtors, several years of low residential construction has left the United States with a deficit of 5.5 million homes — making the demand for affordable housing far, far higher than the supply.
However, some high-priced cities might get cheaper in 2025, thanks to an influx of new housing, which would make housing markets more affordable in those cities. The formerly expensive urban centers might finally be getting cheaper. How is this possible?
As reported by Construction Coverage (and culled from data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 Building Permits Survey as well as Zillow), a number of rather expensive U.S. cities are investing in construction to boost their respective housing markets and local economies.
With that in mind, check out 10 expensive cities that could get cheaper this year. Also see the most expensive city in every state.
