The amount you pay to cover basic necessities can vary greatly depending on where you live. To compare how much these costs differ from state to state, the U.S. Bureau of Economics looked at the cost of apparel, education, food, housing, medical, recreation, transportation and other goods and services in each state.
Based on these costs, it calculated regional price parities, which compares how much the average person in each state paid for these expenses compared to the U.S. average. In 16 states, the average resident is paying more than the average American to cover basic costs. See whether your state is one of them.
