Hoping to increase the value of your home? Or are you getting ready to sell and wondering what would most attract buyers?
Maybe it’s the general increase in home prices or the fact that mortgage rates mostly likely won’t come down anytime soon. Either reason could mean that buyers are more discerning in what they’re looking for, even with new construction homes.
While tastes can vary from location to location, there are some common home features that have risen in popularity.
Next, find out which home features have decreased in popularity.
Cozy Spaces
According to Zillow’s report on 2025 home trends, cozy vibes are where it’s at, with listings with this type of design feature surging 35% in 2024 compared to the previous year.
While it feels like a vague term, think smaller spaces that don’t have open floor plans. It may even refer to design elements that don’t involve builder beige or other kinds of uninspiring colors on the walls.
Spa-Like Upgrades
Zillow reported a possible reason for the increase of bathrooms that offer a spa-like ambiance could be the desire for wellness designs — meaning homes that can help to cultivate your well-being.
So having a large bathroom with a bathtub that combines with the shower or nice tiles mimicking ones you find at five-star hotels could help increase the value of your home.
Protection Against Natural Disasters
The threat of extreme weather is real, with 86% of homebuyers recently saying it’s important for a home to have one “climate-resilient” feature. Among some of the features showing up in more listings so far are flood barriers, drought resistant turf yards, water catchment systems and seismic retrofitting.
It could be that even one of these features in your home could increase its value.
Eco-Friendly Features
Aside from features that protect against climate change, more buyers seem to want eco-friendly features in their homes. As a homeowner, if you have any sustainable features that you could put in a listing, it could help entice buyers.
Solar power seems to be among the most popular of upgrades, with solar panels appearing in a good chunk of home listings. Whole-home batteries seem to be more popular as well, as it stores extra energy created from solar panels.
Fans or drivers of electric vehicles would probably love the convenience of having a charger in their home — Zillow reported there are 34% more listings with these compared to 2023. Even something as seemingly minor as having an induction cooktop can also entice buyers.
