Florida is popular with retirees thanks to its sun, beaches and lack of state income tax. Yet monthly living costs can be high, and when GOBankingRates compiled a list of the most expensive retirement towns in America, 14 Florida towns ranked among the top 30.

“If you love Greece and Italy in equal measure, Corfu is the island for you,” said Roulo, highlighting its UNESCO-listed town and picturesque streets.
Cafes, cultural events and scenic harbors add vibrancy, making everyday life feel more like a vacation at a fraction of Florida’s cost.
Syros
One-bedroom apartments in Syros city center rent for around $573 per month, while a three-course mid-range meal for two averages $42. The island combines affordability with active arts and theater scenes, local festivals and historical architecture, giving retirees a rich cultural backdrop for a modest budget.
Naxos
In Naxos, rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is around $837 per month, with meals at inexpensive restaurants coming in at around $10.
Roulo called the island “a paradise for nature lovers and mythology enthusiasts alike,” with beaches, mountains and traditional villages creating a lifestyle that’s both relaxed and active. The fact that expenses are far below many Florida retirement communities is an added bonus.
Rhodes
A one-bedroom downtown apartment rents for around $526 per month, with groceries and dining just as affordable. Historic towns, medieval streets and international airport access combine with lower costs to make Rhodes a practical and inspiring choice.
Evia
Evia offers lower housing and grocery costs than larger Greek cities, with Roulo describing it as “a compelling and under-the-radar option for retirement in Greece,” with affordability, local community and proximity to Athens. Mountains, beaches and traditional towns create variety while keeping expenses manageable.
