While I personally can never resist a good sale, I’m always looking for ways to make my dollar stretch even further — this is where the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card comes in.
The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card lets you earn reward points wherever you shop — including a boost in earnings when you shop on Amazon — which you can redeem for a variety of goodies. This Amazon Prime Rewards card lets you rack up rewards when you use it to shop not only at Amazon, but also anywhere else. You can then use these rewards to pay for other purchases.
The card’s tiered reward system means some purchases have more power than others. You get 5% back when using the card at Amazon or Whole Foods, but you need an Amazon Prime membership for the full effect. Otherwise, you’ll earn 3% back. You will earn 2% at gas stations and restaurants, as well as 1% back on all other purchases, regardless of status.
Amazon is making the card even more appealing just in time for Prime Day — you’ll get an $80 Amazon gift card instantly upon credit card approval, and Prime members will get 6% cash back instead of the typical 5% cash back when they shop during the sale. And that 6% Prime Day cashback rate applies to Amazon.com purchases and Whole Foods Market purchases made on July 15 and 16.
The most useful feature of the Amazon Prime Rewards card is the ability to use your rewards points to help pay for your purchases. If you use the card exclusively for Amazon purchases, you can make some nice returns thanks to the 3% to 5% cash-back feature. It’s also a credit card with no annual fee, which means your rewards won’t be offset by a hefty recurring charge.
The card doesn’t have a foreign transaction fee, and it comes with emergency assistance for the troubled traveler — the card also provides lost luggage and baggage delay insurance.
Since this card is a Visa, you also get access to the Visa Signature Luxury Hotel collection, meaning you’ll get premium rates at over 900 luxury hotels. Plus, you’ll have access to the Visa Signature Concierge Service, which you can use to line up tickets to sporting and entertainment events, make dinner reservations or even receive gift advice.
Even More Benefits
As if the perks above weren’t enough, cardholders also enjoy auto rental collision damage waivers, roadside dispatch, extended warranty protection and purchase protection. And you’re covered for fraud liability, meaning you will not be responsible for unauthorized purchases on your credit card.
The Bottom Line
If you’re already an Amazon Prime member — or are planning to become one to be able to shop Prime Day — this is definitely a card you should consider applying for. But even if you’re not a Prime member, 3% cash back is a noteworthy rate. No annual fee or foreign transaction fee — plus some nice travel perks — also make this a viable travel card. And with Prime Day coming up, there’s never been a better time to apply.
Still undecided? Here’s a reminder of the card’s basics:
