Inflation reached its highest level in 2022, hitting 9.1% following the COVID-19 pandemic. While inflation has peaked, with the Fed holding interest rates steady between 4.25% and 4.5%, it’s not over. However, it’s not as high as it was.
Here are five things experts shared that will likely get cheaper now that inflation has eased since its peak in 2022.
Gas
After years of pain at the pump, gas could get less expensive with domestic production under President Donald Trump’s administration playing a bigger role.
“Gas prices have fallen from $3.70 in April 2024 to $3.11 per gallon as of March 2025, the lowest since 2021,” said Gary Gray, co-founder of CouponChief. “Despite tariff wars with Mexico and Canada, we will likely see further drops with crude oil prices down and weakening demand.”
Eggs
Eggs have been the most expensive grocery items, with inflation and bird flu outbreak being the major causes.
“Eggs are expensive for more reasons than inflation alone, but they will be getting cheaper through this year, which is good news for breakfast eaters, bakers, and cooks,” said Melanie Musson, finance expert at Insurance Providers.
Used Cars
Used car prices shot up since the pandemic, but they have been leveling out and will likely become cheaper this year. “As of now we’re seeing the used car market become favorable again,” said Lucas Barcelo, founder of Thrivin Life. “I literally just spoke to someone who got a used car from a dealership for $2,500 just last week. It wasn’t a McLaren or anything, but he got a functional vehicle with tires included from a dealership.”
Home Goods and Furniture
Furnishing a home has been a costly endeavor, but prices on home goods and furniture are expected to ease. Whether you’re moving into a new home or simply looking to refresh your space, it might be the right time to invest in furniture at a lower cost.
“Home goods and furniture are expected to get cheaper, and for renters and intending home buyers, this is particularly welcome news, especially as it helps reduce the costs of furnishing a new home or apartment,” said Aaron Razon, finance expert at Coupon Snake. “Renters and home buyers can rest easy and enjoy the weight-off-their-back feeling that comes with the knowledge that they won’t have to break the bank to furnish and decorate their new space.”
Electronics
The tech industry was hit hard by supply chain disruptions, causing prices on everything from laptops to gaming consoles to skyrocket. However, shoppers might find better deals in the coming months.
“The supply chain disruptions that drove electronics prices through the roof are sorting themselves out for the most part. Already, we’re seeing more aggressive pricing on everything from TVs to computers,” said Nick Drewe, CEO and founder of WeThrift. “The chip shortage that plagued manufacturers is fading, and with more inventory in the hands of retailers, they’re more inclined to discount to clear products.”
