Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic continues its reign as a top Caribbean destination. Sully Montero, romance travel specialist and founder of Teach Travel Discover, expects it to be her most popular destination for 2025.
“It’s already surpassed the record for most visitors to a Caribbean island that it set for 2023,” she said. “What sets it apart is the quality of service and the food. Their attention to detail makes you feel like you are getting VIP treatment wherever you go, all at affordable prices.”
Bhutan
- Average Trip Cost: $1,521
Aaron Sutherland, luxury travel expert and founder of Jetsetter Lifestyle, recommended this Himalayan kingdom, which prioritizes happiness and sustainability over mass tourism. Bhutan combines stunning scenery with profound spirituality and is commitment to preserving culture — and the environment makes it an exceptional destination.
“Hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, a breathtaking cliffside temple clinging to a sheer cliff face, and immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of this Buddhist nation,” Sutherland said.
Japan

Japan is poised for a standout year, with the Osaka Expo 2025 spotlighting the country. Beyond iconic cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, destinations like Hokkaido and Okinawa are gaining attention. Hokkaido offers rugged landscapes and incredible seafood, while Okinawa’s turquoise waters and Ryukyuan culture provide a tropical contrast.
“Add in the favorable yen exchange rate, and you’ll see how Japan offers outstanding value, with an exceptionally rich and varied range of experiences that make every dollar well spent,” said Andrea Affinati, founder of Voyaged Magazine.
Portugal

Portugal shines as a vacation spot for 2025 with two standout destinations. Affinati recommended the Algarve for its “dramatic cliffs, golden beaches and quaint coastal villages”, delivering a sense of indulgence without the hefty price tag of some other European coastal hotspots.
“There’s also delicious, fresh seafood, affordable accommodations and some of the best sunsets you’ll ever see,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sutherland highlighted the Azores, describing it as a destination with “dramatic landscapes, lush greenery and opportunities for adventure.”
Namibia
- Average Trip Cost: $1,153
Sutherland recommended this vast and sparsely populated country in southern Africa, giving particular mention to its “diverse landscapes, from the towering red sand dunes of Sossusvlei to the eerie Skeleton Coast.” He suggested visiting between the months of May and September for dry weather and optimal wildlife viewing.
According to Affinati, Namibia is becoming one of Africa’s hottest destinations.
“What I think makes Namibia stand out is the exclusivity of the experience. You’re often exploring these incredible locations with very few people around, giving you the kind of peace and solitude that’s rare in more popular safari destinations,” she said.
Slovenia

Slovenia’s compact size belies its incredible diversity. From the dramatic Julian Alps to the shimmering Adriatic coast, this Central European gem enchants at every turn. Explore the Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or kayak on the emerald Soča River.
Sutherland suggested choosing to stay somewhere luxurious like Vila Bled, a former royal residence with stunning lake views.
Costa Rica

“Summer — June-August — offers long days and outdoor activities, while winter — December-February — is perfect for the northern lights,” said Sutherland.
