After nearly collapsing during the coronavirus pandemic, cruising is back and bigger than ever. Cruise lines are reporting record revenues as vacationers pack their ships to overcapacity, even as prices continue to spiral higher. But not all cruise lines are about stuffing as many people as they can into small cabins. If you’ve got the money to spend, cruising can be a relaxing, luxurious experience.
Explora Journeys, for example, is the new luxury division of mainstream line MSC Cruises that provides ultimate pampering for those who can afford it. Currently, there are only two ships in Explora’s fleet — EXPLORA I and EXPLORA II — but the line already has four additional ships on order with EXPLORA III coming in summer 2026.
Explora Journeys has won the “Best Suite Design on a Luxury Cruise Ship” award from Travel Weekly’s Magellan Awards, along with “Outstanding Cuisine,” and for good reason.
Here is a look at some of the incredible amenities you can get if you spend $6,000 per night — or even more — on a suite at a luxury cruise line.
The Owner’s Residence
The Owner’s Residence on Explora Journeys might go beyond even your wildest imagination. Explora describes the Owner’s Residence as “the pinnacle of ocean living…with multiple harmonious settings in which to relax, entertain or unwind.”
But it goes much further than this simple description.
Here are just some of the amenities offered by this luxury suite:
- Dedicated private butler service
- Floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean views
- Separate living, dining and sleeping areas
- Dining table for 8 guests
- In-suite welcome bottle of Dom Pérignon champagne
- Private bar, replenished according to your preferences
- Espresso machine, kettle and teapot with coffee and tea selection
- Complimentary personal refillable water bottles
- Pair of binoculars for use during the journey
- Technogym Bench & Technogym Case Kit for comprehensive in-suite fitness experience
- Guest lavatory and powder room
- Panoramic ocean-front terrace stretching the ship’s full width, with a private whirlpool, day beds, dining table, lounge area, shower and sun loungers
- Luxurious marble bathroom with double vanity, large bathtub, walk-in shower and steam room
- Bespoke king-sized bed sleep system – size: 200 x 200 cm (79 x 79 in)
That’s a lot to unpack at one glance, so here’s a look at some of the standout features.
The Owner’s Residence, first and foremost, encompasses the full width of the ship. Think about that for just a moment. On your private, outdoor veranda, you can walk from side to side of the entire ship — and it’s all yours! The Residence itself is a whopping 3,014 square feet, roughly 700 square feet bigger than the average single-family home in America. The terrace alone is bigger than many houses, at 1,344 square feet on its own, and includes a private hot tub. Both the living room and the bedroom sport massive televisions, and the Residence even comes with its own guest powder room.
You won’t be nickeled-and-dimed as a guest in the Owner’s Residence, as your fare includes everything you could need, from meals, crew gratuities and internet service to alcohol, fitness classes, in-port shuttle services and a bottle of Dom Perignon.
Are There Other Cruise Lines Just as Luxurious — or Expensive?
Although Explora Journeys has a remarkable offering, it’s far from the only luxury cruise line available. Regent Seven Seas Cruises, for example, won the most recent Magellan award for “Luxury Ship — Suite Design,” and it offers many of the same amenities as Explora. This luxury division of Norwegian Cruise Line is decidedly aimed at the very top of the first-class market.
For example, the Regent Suite on the Seven Seas Grandeur from London to Reykjavik on June 28, 2026, will cost you $83,999 per person for the 14-night sailing, or roughly $6,000 each per night. This suite is even bigger than Explora’s Owner’s Residence, coming in at roughly 4,444 square feet, and its list of amenities is equally impressive, if not more so. With this sailing, you’re entitled to:
- A one-night pre-cruise hotel package, including breakfast and transfers
- A personal car and guide when you’re in port
- Daily spa and wellness services, including priority reservations
- Personal butler service
- In-suite full liquor bar setup
- Daily canapes
- Your choice of luxurious bedding items
- Premium champagne welcome bottle
- In-suite caviar service (one time)
- Direct dial satellite phone
- Shoe shine service
- Personalized stationery
- Daily delivery of up to three newspapers
These features don’t even include the suite itself, which boasts nine different types of marble, a window wall and countless other luxurious touches.
The Bottom Line
These days, cruising can mean anything you want it to be. If you’re looking for the most affordable vacation possible, you can sail on most lines in an inside cabin for well under $100 per day. But if you’re looking for the ultimate experience, prepare to shell out as much as 50 to 100 times that amount on a daily basis.
