Texas has seen a population spike in recent years. In 2022, the population grew by 470,708. And in 2023, the Lone Star State gained more people than any other state that year. Helping to drive the uptick in residents in Texas is the state’s robust economy, business-friendly environment and its relative affordability (the state’s cost of living is 7% lower than the national average, according to RentCafe.

Many cities in Texas are forecast to get even cheaper, in terms of housing, in 2025. In a new study, GOBankingRates found the 18 cities with the largest expected decrease in home values over the span of one year (October 2024 to October 2025), using data from Zillow. Should you relocate to any of these metros in the new year?

Methodology: For this piece, GOBankingRates looked at all the Texas metro housing markets and found the 18 cities with the largest decrease in one year (October 2024 to October 2025) home value, according to Zillow’s October 2024 data. To be considered the metro had to have negative projected home values for both 3-month and 1-year forecasts. All data was collected and up to date as of Dec. 9, 2024.
