When someone has enough money to buy whatever they want, what do you purchase as a gift for them? Truly, nothing. That’s because billionaires have access to not only wealth, but items that the rest of us can only dream of shopping for, let alone being able to afford. If you have ever wondered just how lush and lavish these gifts can be, GOBankingRates is offering a peek behind the gilded curtain.
Here are extravagant holiday gifts billionaires have bought over the years.
Hermès Birkin Bag
- Reported Price: starting at $9,000
If you got a bag, you can afford an Hermès Birkin, what Business Insider called the most exclusive and expensive type of handbag in the world. For those billionaires who have expensive taste, a Birkin is a great way to show it off.
Winston Chesterfield, founder of Barton, a consulting firm focused on luxury and the wealthy, told Business Insider that an associate of his gifts a new Hermès bag to his wife each year and, essentially, the rest of her gifts were influenced by the purse.
Christian Louboutin Custom Saddle
- Reported Price: $47,000
There is a unique Western saddle that could only be created by Christian Louboutin and only the wealthiest could put under their Christmas trees.Â
According to Forbes, Neiman Marcus noted the saddle’s signature features range from red leather stirrups in a chic red, as well as Italian leather for the seat and fenders sporting over 17,000 sapphire-toned strass crystals. Louboutin added flourishes of his renowned high heels and hand bags, plus his company’s engraved sterling silver logo in French.
Dinner in Space
- Reported Price: $495,000
Taking someone out for a meal to celebrate holidays is a nice thing to do, but taking them to outer space for dinner is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Elite Traveler has found that SpacePerspective can operate a giant helium balloon that can take the wealthiest diners 20 miles above the Earth.
The orbital experiment is set to launch in 2025, with Richard Branson co-piloting that debut flight and culinary offerings made by Rasmus Munk, the chef behind Copenhagen’s highly praised Alchemist restaurant.Â
Annie Leibovitz Portrait Session
- Reported Price: $500,000
Most billionaires can afford to buy expensive pieces of art and now, they can become one. Through Neiman Marcus, esteemed photographer Annie Leibovitz is offering a private, four-hour portrait session in her New York studio for anyone who does not balk at the half a million price tag.
According to Neiman Marcus, buyers can bring their family in this experience for the ultimate Christmas Card. The subjects are welcomed with champagne, then taken to a creative consultation with Leibovitz prior to being handed off to a professional styling team that will prepare you and your family for the shoot. Afterwards, you can meet with Leibovitz’s editor for a deep dive into her historic portrait series. To top it all off, participants will receive two signed exhibition prints, 100 autographed copies of Leibovitz’ new book and four signed volumes of her collected works.
