You may be more familiar with New York’s wealthiest cities than you realize. Suburbs like Rye and Scarsdale have been spotted in our 2024 and 2025 rankings of America’s wealthiest suburbs, thanks to their above-average household incomes. According to a new GOBankingRates study, New York’s 15 wealthiest cities boast mean household incomes of at least $276,000 annually.
GOBankingRates found these cities by studying all New York cities with populations of 5,000 or greater. The U.S. Census 2023 American Community Survey was referred to for household incomes, and the cost of living was calculated using the national average household expenditure costs.

Methodology: For this study, GOBankingRates analyzed all the cities in New York with at least 5,000 population, according to the U.S. Census 2023 American Community Survey. The total households and income were sourced from the ACS. The cost of living was calculated using Sperling’s BestPlaces the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey. The livability indexes were sourced from Areavibes. The cities were sorted by their average household income. All data was collected on and is up to date as of Oct. 8, 2025.
