Most of us will never be billionaires, which makes it difficult to imagine what we would and wouldn’t spend our money on if we were. Among the U.S. billionaires, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and Meta Platforms, ranks near the top, with a net worth of around $250 billion.

Let’s take a look at how Zuckerberg is spending and saving his money.

Where Zuckerberg Spends Money

As you’d expect, there are some fancy things that Zuckerberg spends his fortune on. Here are a few examples.

Superyacht

Last year, Zuckerberg turned 40, and for the event, he decided to buy a $300 million mega yacht called LAUNCHPAD. This yacht is one of the most expensive in the world, with all of the bells and whistles you’d expect a billionaire’s ship to have. It stretches 387 feet, holds up to 24 guests.

It also came with a $30 million companion ship named WINGMAN. This support boat accommodates up to 20 crew members, supports submarine and helicopter operations and features a dive center with a decompression chamber.

Private Jet

It’s no surprise that Zuckerberg doesn’t fly commercial. He’s got an $80 million Gulfstream G700 jet with a whisper-quiet cabin, meaning he enjoys the lowest cabin sound levels while aboard. This model also has up to five living areas, award-winning interior design and, of course, high-speed Wi-Fi.

Real Estate

As of 2025, Zuckerberg’s real estate portfolio is estimated to be worth $200 million. This includes a residential compound of five homes in Palo Alto, two estates in Lake Tahoe and 1,200 acres of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Zuckerberg also paid $23 million for a mansion in Washington, D.C., with 15,000 square feet of space.

Where Zuckerberg Saves Money

Perhaps surprisingly, billionaires don’t always spend lavishly. Here are a few ways that Zuckerberg optimizes his spending and cuts costs.

Clothing

When Zuckerberg makes a public appearance, he’s not wearing designer clothes or flashy suits. In interviews and events, he often wears the same trademark gray T-shirt, which saves him not only money but time.

Dressing down also helps fight against decision-making fatigue. People in positions of power must make significant decisions throughout the day. Wearing the same simple clothing every day is one less choice to make.

Wedding

On May 19, 2012, the day after Facebook went public, Zuckerberg married his long-time girlfriend, Priscilla Chan. Instead of renting out a castle or jetting to a private island, Zuckerberg and Chan got married in the backyard of their Palo Alto home. They only invited 100 guests, and to keep the event private, they initially told them that they would be attending a graduation party.

Shopping

Zuckerberg has also been spotted buying goods himself instead of having others do it for him, and he looks for the best deals. In December 2019, a shopper snapped a picture of Zuckerberg and his wife at the discount retailer Costco in Mountain View, California. In Zuckerberg’s case, he appeared to be searching for a new TV.
