If you’re like most potential homebuyers, you’ve likely had some sticker shock by the prices of homes — and the general cost of living — over the past few years. Due to historically low mortgage interest rates and fueled by the pandemic, housing prices rocketed skyward from 2021 to late 2022.

But since then, the housing market has been cooling. And, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, while the national median home sales price is still $420,800 as of the first quarter of 2024, that represents a $8,200 decrease from the year prior.

Simultaneously, according to Realtor.com, the number of homes for sale between $200,000 and $350,000 increased by 20.6% from March 2023 to March 2024.

If you’re into urban settings and looking for affordable housing, here are the 10 metro areas with the most offerings in the range, in order of number of listings.

10. Birmingham, Alabama

With the lowest median list price of the 10, at $286,000, Birmingham offers a great chance at scoring an affordable property. 993 properties listed between $200,000 and $350,000, an increase of 39.1% from the year before.

9. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

With a median home list price of $323,000 and 1,429 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000, Oklahoma’s capital offers ample opportunity for homebuyers on a budget. The number of listings in this range increased 32.3% from the year before.

8. New Orleans, Louisiana

The Big Easy could be an easy place to find a home in your price range, with a median list price of $325,000 and 1,621 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000. That represents an increase of 25.4% over March of 2023.

7. Orlando, Florida

If you like theme parks, this is your city. Home to many, including Walt Disney World, Orlando also has 2,109 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000, a 42.8% increase over the year before. They are well below the median listing price of $435,000.

6. Tampa, Florida

A vibrant city set on Tampa Bay, along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Tampa boasts a median home listing price of $416,000. Despite that, listings between $200,000 and $350,000 rose year-over-year by 31.0%, with 3,803 homes in that range.

5. San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio, Texas, home to the famous Alamo, also has a low median listed home value of $335,000, with 4,134 homes listed in the $200,000 to $350,000 price range. That represents a 25.8% increase from the year before.

4. Dallas, Texas

This modern metropolis in northern Texas has an impressive 4,629 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000, an increase of 31.9% from the year before. With a metro-wide median listing price of $435,000, these offerings are more surprising.

3. Atlanta, Georgia

Home to Coca-Cola and the 1996 Olympics, Atlanta is now home to 4,835 home listings in the $200,000 to $350,000 range, representing a 10.4% increase over the year before. Those listings are well below the city’s median price of $409,000.

2. Miami, Florida

Coming in runner-up, based on countless listings, is sunny Miami, with 6,654 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000, representing an increase of an astounding 67.4% from the year prior. What makes it even more surprising is the city’s median listed home price of $550,000.

1. Houston, Texas

If you have a budding astronaut in the family, the home of NASA’s Johnson Space Center might be an attractive and affordable choice. It has experienced an 11.7% increase in homes listed between $200,000 to $350,000, with a metro-wide median home price of just $360,000 and a whopping 7,799 homes listed between $200,000 and $350,000.
