Each year, stores begin stocking their Halloween decor earlier. It was barely mid-August when Midwest-based home improvement store Menards began displaying a new line-up of Halloween animatronics, inflatables, collectible houses and more. The Home Depot was not far behind, with its 12-foot tall skeleton, Skelly, taking center stage in store displays.

Let’s take a look at some of the top products from each retailer and then assess which store has the best Halloween decor deals in 2024.

Home Depot: Servo Skelly

This 12-foot tall skeleton became famous on TikTok and was not easy to find in stores last year. The Home Depot website has placed a limit of 1 per customer of Servo Skelly, with a motorized head for movement ($379) or Giant-Sized Skelly ($299). Both models have LCD LifeEyes with 8 functions. These aren’t discounted, but they are only available at The Home Depot.

Menards: Pumpkin Hollow 7′ Animated LED Bad Seed Pumpkin

This 7-foot tall pumpkin head creature with glowing LED eyes may not be as imposing as Skelly, but movement and sound brings him to life in a terrifying way that will add a whole new dimension to your Halloween yard display. Now through September 2, 2024, save 11% off the retail price of $299 to pay just $266 after Menards mail-in, store credit rebate.

Home Depot: Straw Bale

Bales of hay or straw add a festive fall touch for Halloween and typically last through Thanksgiving. Pick up a full-size (20″ x 16″ x 36″) straw bale for $27.97, a 20% savings.

Menards: Pumpkin Hollow Straw Bale

Measuring just a foot shorter than The Home Depot straw bale, Menards’s 24-inch straw bale is less than half the price at $12.81 (with 11% off). Menards offers the better deal and a smaller bale may even provide more flexibility for your Halloween displays.

Home Depot: 10.5″ Polyresin Dancing Skeleton

Skeletons promise to be a hot item this Halloween. These three dancing dudes, demurely dressed in top hats and bowties, will be the life of your party. The 10.5-inch tabletop display of skeletons is just $35 at The Home Depot. Keep in mind, this polyresin display does not move or light up.

Menards: Trick-or-Treat House

Menards has an extensive collection of tabletop haunted houses that we love. This haunted house lights up with included LEDs and is handpainted with intricate details. It measures just over 10.5″ high. It’s just $44 with an 11% rebate at Menards now through September 2, 2024.

Home Depot: 7.75-inch Block Sign

This simple 7.75-inch wood sign reads Happy Halloween and is perfect for your mantel or table. Save $2 (10%) right now when you grab this sign for $18 at The Home Depot.

Menards: 6-inch Block Sign

Menards also features a large collection of tabletop and mantel décor for Halloween. This 6-inch square block sign warns visitors, “This House Is a Little Batty.” It costs just $4.44 right now at Menards.

Home Depot: LED Vampire Donald Duck

The Home Depot has an eye-catching collection of inflatables for every holiday, and this Halloween is no different. Disney fans will love this 3.2-foot-tall Donald Duck dressed as a vampire, for just $35. It includes a built-in LED for nighttime visibility.

Menards: Disney 5″ Animated Vampire Stitch

Menards’ new line of licensed Disney inflatables caught our eye when we visited in August, including this adorable Stitch dressed as a vampire popping out of a jack-o-lantern. The display stands 5 feet tall and lights up via LEDs. It’s $80 right now with the 11% rebate.

Home Depot Pros and Cons for Halloween

Across the board, The Home Depot’s prices are slightly higher than Menards for similar Halloween décor. Yet, it seems like there will be more sales to come, since many items haven’t been marked down. The Home Depot frequently has the year’s hottest Halloween items, so if you’re looking for something specific that’s trending on social media, The Home Depot should be your first stop.

Pros

  • More locations nationwide
  • Save upfront instead of waiting for a mail-in rebate
  • Tons of exclusive items

Cons

  • Higher prices
  • Limits on certain popular items

Menards Pros and Cons for Halloween

Menards is known for its low prices, but there are a few caveats. The 11% savings only applies to in-store purchases and is only good for a store credit off future purchases. Even so, Menards has lower prices, in general, and a wide variety of fun and fashionable home décor for the fall.

Pros

  • Low everyday prices
  • Wide variety of licensed merchandise
  • 11% off (in the form of store credit) on most purchases

Cons

  • Limited to the Midwest
  • Mail-in rebate is only good on in-store purchases
