As travelers become more aware of their carbon footprint and seek more responsible globetrotting adventures, sustainable travel is becoming increasingly important. According to The Knot, ecotourism is a growing trend that focuses on responsible travel, conserving the environment and protecting nature and wildlife. Many eco-resorts are leading the way in this effort. From rescuing abused animals to using sustainable energy, eco-resorts create a positive environmental impact and demonstrate their commitment to responsible travel in various ways. The question is can eco-resorts be budget-friendly?

While some eco-resorts charge unreasonably high prices, balancing sustainability and fun without costing a fortune is possible. According to travel experts, here are four budget-friendly eco-resorts to travel to in 2025.

Sandos Caracol, Mexico

Located in the Riviera Maya, the Sandos Caracol is just an hour and fifteen minutes south of the Cancun Airport and offers an unforgettable time at a low cost.

“The Sandos Caracol is an all-time favorite eco-resort for my clients and me,” Bea Naprava, owner of Bea Amazed Travel, shared with GOBankingRates. “This property is a two-part resort,” she added. “One side is family-friendly and the other is adults-only, making it great for families, couples and multi-generational travel. It is also a great choice for destination weddings.”

While the price differs based on several factors such as travel time, type of room and length of stay, most trips are under $800 per person for a five-night stay, not including flights, according to Naprava, but do include food and drinks. Items not included are spa treatments, private dinners on the beach and bottles of wine.

“My clients rave about the water park, the underground cenotes, the monkey habitat and the size of the resort,” Naprava said. “This property feels as though you’re immersed in a beachside jungle while enjoying the great benefits of a budget all-inclusive property.”

Fond Doux Eco Resort, Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a captivating Eastern Caribbean island nation with stunning volcanic beaches, charming beach towns and enchanting rainforests. While several expensive luxury resorts are located there, Fond Doux Eco Resort is a boutique property within a Unesco World Heritage site that doesn’t break the bank.

“It’s surrounded by lush jungle, the staff is incredibly kind and it’s close to the iconic Piton Mountains,” Naprava explained. “My clients love the farm-to-table approach, dining at the two on-site restaurants, the cottage-like accommodations and the organic spa.”

For travelers seeking a budget-friendly resort while exploring the beauty and allure of the island, “Fond Doux guests can expect to pay around $600 per person for a five-night stay before airfare,” Naprava said. “This property is not a true all-inclusive, but it does offer reasonably priced all-inclusive dining and drink packages that travelers can purchase for an additional fee,” she added.

Ecolodge La Estancia, Bolivia

Known for its dramatic landscapes, pristine rainforests and indigenous Andean traditions, Bolivia encapsulates an old-world charm not to be missed. Situated in the heart of South America, the country offers plenty to see and do.

Budget-conscious travelers can explore the breathtaking area and stay at Ecolodge La Estancia for approximately $170 to $270 a night per double room for two guests.

“Nestled on the southern tip of Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca, Ecolodge La Estancia offers eco-friendly lodges built on restored pre-Inca agricultural terraces at 4,010 meters above sea level,” travel expert Arsen Misakyan, cofounder of LAXcar, explained. “Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the Royal Andes Mountains, partake in activities like hiking and cultural exchanges and savor local dishes at the on-site restaurant.”

Staying at cost-effective eco-resorts is an affordable and meaningful way to support destinations prioritizing responsible travel and sustainability. You’ll not only enjoy an incredibly affordable vacation but also contribute to preserving the environment.
