Rare coin collecting is a unique and fascinating world that requires the willingness to delve into history while having an eye for the obscure. Known as numismatics, collecting coins can not only serve as a satisfying hobby, but it may also provide a source of income. Rare coins can sell for thousands of dollars, with highly valuable pieces securing a six-figure price tag.

Unless a sudden discovery of a rare coin increases the number in circulation, the change will continue to appreciate in value. Some coins are even expected to rise dramatically in price, keeping collectors on the hunt. Here are rare coins that will be worth big money in 10 years

1804 Silver Dollar

With only 15 known in circulation, the 1804 silver dollar is one of the most coveted coins in the world. In 2021, an 1804 silver dollar graded Proof-68 by PCGS sold for $7.86 million, Barron’s reported, making it the second most expensive dollar sold.

While it is difficult to predict how much another of these coins could go for over the next decade, it is expected that it will retain its multimillion-dollar price tag due to its rarity. What has been deemed “The King of U.S. Coins” by the American Numismatic Association (ANA) is not likely to disappoint collectors or depreciate in value.

1913 Liberty Head Nickel

The 1913 Liberty Head Nickel is another coin that could fetch millions of dollars in the coming years. With only five believed to be in circulation, it is unsurprising that one sold for $4.2 million in 2022, as reported by Beeghly and Company Jewelers.

Two are currently housed in museums, while three remain in the hands of private collectors. If one of these goes to auction in the next ten years, it is expected to secure a seven-figure sum.

Wheat Pennies

Some rare wheat penny coins can already fetch collectors tens of thousands of dollars, but the 100th anniversary of pre-1935 mints could drive up demand.

Interest in coins tends to peak during major milestones. Low-mintage wheat pennies with high grades — MS66 and above — will bring in the most significant amount.

1794 Silver Dollar

The 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar is undoubtedly one of the most craved rare coins. One sold for over $10 million in 2013, Stack’s Bowers reported.

Believed to be one of the first silver dollars minted, it is unclear whether there are others in circulation. If another came for auction in the next decade, it could sell for millions, depending on the condition.

1937-D 3-Legged Buffalo Nickel

The 1937 3-Legged Buffalo is a nickel that would make any collector proud and may substantially increase in value as it hits the century mark. The hilarious misprint can go for anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, depending on the grade.

However, it is important to note that there are a number of fakes circulating, according to ANA.
