Want to make spring break 2025 one you’ll always remember without going into debt? There are at least five international destinations travelers can visit on a budget with delicious cuisine, plenty of cultural activities to partake in and breathtaking sights you can only experience during the spring season.
GOBankingRates spoke to two travel experts for their insight on where travelers should head this spring and get the greatest bang for their buck.
Don’t wait for your chance to book travel to these five international destinations.
Portugal
If visiting France, Spain or Italy is too financially out of pocket this year, consider traveling to Portugal to experience Europe for less while enjoying the culture, food and wine and warm weather. Kendra Guild, vice president of North America at Solos Holidays, said that while prices have increased due to demand in Portugal over the last few years, the country is still quite affordable.
Guild recommends looking into the shoulder season, like April, to find the best travel deals. Dollar Travel Club recently cited Lisbon as the fifth cheapest destination to fly to in 2025 and recommends booking travel during the late spring months if you’re on a budget. The average flight cost, according to their calculations, is about $330.
Japan
2025 is the year where Japan is not only trending as a top international spring destination, but it has never been more affordable to visit.
In February 2025, Kayak published a spring break travel guide where two Japanese cities (Osaka and Tokyo) ranked in fourth and fifth place among the top trending spring break destinations. Each city’s airfare averages $1,221 and $1,186, respectively.
Affordability aside, travelers will be able to see the cherry blossoms as they begin to flower in March. Anna Abelson, an adjunct instructor at New York University’s School of Professional Studies with a background in international tourism, highly recommends traveling during sakura season.
“The highlight of spring in Japan is undoubtedly the breathtaking cherry blossom season,” said Abelson. “Late March to early April is the best time to witness these beautiful blooms, with popular spots including Tokyo’s Ueno Park, Kyoto’s Philosopher’s Path and Osaka’s Japan Mint Bureau.”
Albania
Travelers unable to expense a spring trip to Greece this year should consider visiting neighboring Albania instead. They’ll be able to experience the best of both worlds: Beautiful natural scenery in a fascinating landscape that doesn’t cost as much money as you might imagine.
“Albania boasts diverse landscapes, from beautiful beaches along the Ionian and Adriatic Seas to the rugged mountains of the Albanian Alps,” said Guild. “Its affordability makes it an approachable destination to enjoy the best of the Adriatic Sea at significantly lower prices.”
According to Kayak, Tirana ranks in seventh place among the top trending spring break destinations of 2025. A flight to this Albanian city is estimated to cost around $764.
Austria
Take advantage of the savings afforded to you when you travel to Austria in spring. Dollar Flight Club ranked Vienna at number seven for the cheapest places to fly in 2025, as tickets average around $350.
If you’ve already visited Vienna, Guild recommends exploring Salzburg where many aspects of your trip, including seeing stunning gardens, wandering the charming streets and visiting majestic cathedrals, are completely free.
“Salzburg is filled with many free activities across the city that you can take advantage of that will make you feel like you aren’t breaking the bank during your European holiday,” Guild continued.
The Dominican Republic
What if you want to spend your spring trip relaxing on the beach? Consider this your sign to book travel in the Dominican Republic, where travelers have their pick of gorgeous beaches in cities like Punta Cana, La Romana and Puerto Plata, among many others.
Perfect weather aside, the Dominican Republic is a fan favorite with many U.S. travelers because it is so accessible. Abelson said that Punta Cana offers 24 nonstop routes from various U.S. cities, which could lead to paying much less for airfare.
Santiago de los Caballeros, which ranks as Kayak’s number one trending spring break destination, has airfare that starts at $485. Of the top 10 spring break destinations to rank, Santiago de los Caballeros is the cheapest international destination for airfare.
