Home improvements can enhance your living space, but there’s another reason why homeowners take on remodeling projects-certain renovations can significantly boost the home’s value and this year home improvements are skyrocketing. According to the latest Angi report, 93% of homeowners are planning on tackling home improvement projects due to economic shifts and limited housing market.

However, not all home improvements are created equal. Not every project is going to increase your home’s worth.

“As a seasoned Realtor with years of experience helping buyers and sellers navigate every kind of market — from the hot to the not-so-hot — I’ve seen firsthand which home improvements truly move the needle when it comes to property value,” explained Yawar Charlie, director of estates at Christie’s International Real Estate of Southern California.

“Trends come and go, but smart upgrades that enhance functionality, appeal and efficiency will always stand the test of time,” he added.

Whether you’re trying to sell your house or spruce up your place, being strategic with remodeling can add more worth to your home. Here are the top three home improvements believed to add the most value to your house in 2025.

Energy-Efficient Upgrades

Watching every dime in this economy makes a difference and cutting back on energy use can lower your monthly expenses by dropping over-the-top utility bills while increasing your home’s value.

Buyers in 2025 are savvier than ever — they’re not just looking at the price tag of the home, they’re calculating long-term savings,” Charlie explained.  “Energy-efficient upgrades like solar panels, dual-pane windows and proper insulation don’t just shrink utility bills — they boost your home’s appeal in a big way.”

Eco-friendly is a lasting trend that seems to be here to stay. “It’s a smart investment that feels good for the planet and your pocketbook,” Charlie said.

Modern Kitchens With Functional Layouts

A beautiful kitchen is an attractive selling point, but it’s not just about the aesthetic of the design-it has to be practical, per Charlie.

“The kitchen is still the heart of the home — but in 2025, it’s less about flashy finishes and more about smart, functional design,” he explained. “Think open shelving, upgraded appliances and layout flow that makes sense.”

“A well-designed kitchen tells buyers, “This house has been loved — and lived in well,” he added. And let’s be honest, no one ever walks into a stunning kitchen and says, ‘Eh, I could do without it.”

Versatile Outdoor Living Spaces

With so many homeowners revamping their houses to accommodate their needs and wants, having an upscale outdoor space is vital.
Whether it’s a sleek deck, a shaded pergola or a fire pit setup, creating a space to relax and entertain outside adds serious lifestyle value. And lifestyle sells,” Charlie said.

“Buyers want to picture themselves hosting Sunday brunch or unwinding with a glass of wine under the stars,” he added. “Bonus points if the space looks great on Instagram.”

While these home improvements will definitely bring value, there’s other projects homeowners are also embarking on to refresh their home’s appeal including painting, bathroom remodels, installing new floors and landscaping, per Angi’s data.
