Sometimes, homes have a lot scarier things than leaky pipes and creaky floors — they come with things that go bump in the night.
A farmhouse in Rhode Island, a mansion in Mississippi and a historic New York apartment building all have reputations for unexplained activity, and each one is up for sale.
Burrillville, Rhode Island

Known as “The Conjuring House”, this 3,023-square-foot farmhouse, built in 1736, was headed to a foreclosure auction that will take place on Halloween. The 14-room house, which sits on approximately 8.5 acres, is the real-life setting of “The Conjuring” horror movie franchise that is based on a series of paranormal events experienced by the Perron Family who lived in the home in the 1970s. The home was last sold for $1.5 million in May 2022, according to People.
The house is no longer available for auction as of Oct. 8, 2025, but imagine owning such a frightening legacy!
Canton, Mississippi

Although there are no mentions of hauntings in the real estate listing of the Priestly house, reports say otherwise. Dr. James Priestly and his wife, Susan, who built the home in 1852, died from yellow fever in the early 1900s, and apparently, their spirits still linger, according to Urban Ash. Eerie events have occurred over the years, like a piano playing on its own, candles falling out of holders and sightings of the former Mrs. Priestly in ghostly form.
Although the original home consisted of only a front porch, four rooms and a staircase, the 5,252-square-foot-home has expanded over time. It now boasts four bedrooms and three baths, a formal dining room, music room, parlor, sleeping porch and swimming pool.
New York City, New York
- Listing price: $5.5 million to $15 million
If your dream is to encounter the late John Lennon, buying an apartment at The Dakota — a luxury apartment complex in the Upper West Side of Manhattan — might make it possible. Reports say the ghost of Lennon, who once lived there, has been seen wandering the halls and also playing the piano in his former apartment, according to Calenda Real Estate Group. Three apartments in the building are currently available, according to a Zillow listing: one for $5.5 million, one for $7 million and one for $15.5 million.
