Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World,” with many concerts happening year-round and festivals like the Fun Fun Fun Fest this November. Even with all of the great events Austin has to offer, sometimes you just need a little getaway from city life. Perhaps you’re wanting to do some backpacking around Europe or just want to spend a week in isolation away at a mountain retreat. Whatever your vacation plans are, your Austin credit card can help.
The Visa Platinum Card through Air Force Federal Credit Union, for example, earns members one point for every dollar spent. Throughout the year, you can even earn double or five times the amount of points during special promotions. There are not many credit cards that offer these perks without an annual fee, but Air Force FCU’s credit card has a $0 annual fee.
Although you can redeem your points for just about anything, here are some great travel rewards to use your credit card points on.

1. Flights
With some rewards credit cards, you can redeem rewards for both domestic and international flights. Make your points go even further by booking your trip on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday — as those are typically the cheapest days to fly, according to The Huffington Post. Also, being flexible with your travel plans will allow you to get the most mileage out of your points.
2. Hotel Stays
With over 80,000 hotels worldwide to choose from, you are bound to find a great deal on accommodations whether you travel locally or internationally. If you are still unsure of your travel plans, some credit unions will allow you to use your points for a hotel certificate, which can then be used at a wide selection of hotels.
3. Rental Cars
Sometimes you can even redeem your points towards the use of a rental car. If you are not too sure about what dates you will need a rental car, just as with hotels, you might be able to use your points to purchase a car certificate, which can be used to pay for a rental car whenever you need it.
4. Cruises
You could also use your points towards a cruise in most cases, and you won’t have to worry about your food and accommodation costs. A cruise is a great way to see the world, while also enjoying a relaxing vacation.
5. Experiences
Many credit card reward points can be used on special experiences too — from a relaxing spa day to entire vacation packages. For example, you can use your points on a three-night Rose Bowl Game package in LA this December or Project Israel, which allows you to enjoy nine nights in Israel and explore the Galilee region by motor coach.
Many people put travel and vacations on the back burner because of their budget. Use your Austin credit card for everyday spending, and you will be amazed at how quickly you accumulate points to take the trips of your dreams.
