Pete B. is a 38-year-old retail supervisor from Las Vegas who’s feeling the financial squeeze. With an associate’s degree in business and decades of retail experience, Pete earns above minimum wage but still finds himself counting pennies until payday.

Here’s why he’s putting his hopes in Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic plans for 2025.

The Housing Help I Need

Pete has always seen himself as a homeowner, and he believes Harris has plans to put him in a house.

“I’m getting reallllllly tired of throwing away money on rent,” Pete said. “When Harris talks about that $25,000 down payment assistance and $10,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers, that’s speaking my language. Right now, I can’t even dream of saving for a down payment on my salary.”

Finally, Someone’s Talking About Price Gouging

Pete’s grocery bills are keeping him up at night.

“Every time I go to the store, prices are higher,” he said. “When Harris talks about banning price gouging by grocery stores, I’m all for it. Hey, maybe I can start buying more fresh food, too. I know all those Lean Cuisines can’t be good for me!”

The Minimum Wage Reality

Pete lives in the minimum wage reality — and he sees how it’s hurting everyone around him.

“I supervise people making $12 an hour, and it’s just not right,” Pete explained. “Harris wants to raise the minimum wage and get rid of that tipped wage. That would help my whole team, and when they make more, I’ll probably get a bump, too.”

Healthcare That Makes Sense

The proposed insulin cost cap caught Pete’s attention.

“My mom’s diabetic, and Harris wants to expand that $35 monthly insulin cap to everyone, not just seniors,” he said. “Plus, that $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket prescriptions would be huge for my family — we’re not getting any younger and these prescriptions add up.”

No Tax Hikes for Regular Folks

Pete likes the look of Harris’s tax promises.

“She’s saying no tax increases for anyone making under $400,000. I’m nowhere near that — unless I win the lottery LOL — so I’m good,” he said. “Plus, she wants to go after those big corporations that are probably part of why everything costs so much.”

The Final Word

“I know Harris isn’t perfect,” Pete said. “She’s a politician, after all! But I feel like she’s more for working people than a billionaire who talks a big game, but who didn’t do much when he was in office. I think it’s time for someone new, and I like her plans because they’re common sense. I’m ready for them.”
