Are low prices a thing of the past? It certainly seems to feel this way as Americans continue to struggle with increasing costs on everything from eggs to streaming services, despite cooling inflation. And this could be the tip of the iceberg. According to Business Insider, it may cost more money to buy cars, apparel and electronics in 2025 if President Donald Trump enacts his proposed tariff plan.

4 Subtly Genius Moves All Wealthy People Make With Their Money

Fortunately, some expensive things have gotten cheaper in recent months — and are worth taking advantage of at their newly lower rates.

Gas

Planning to drive this holiday season? It shouldn’t cost you as much as it did previously. On Dec. 5, the American Automobile Association (AAA) revealed that gas prices had plunged to a three-year low.

At the time of reporting, 32 states had an average below or well under $3 for a gallon of gas. As of Dec. 13, the national average for a gallon of gas was $3.026. The United States is just pennies, and potentially a few weeks, away from possibly seeing the national average drop below $3. If it does happen, the AAA said it would be the first time since May 11, 2021.

McDonald’s Fast Food

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel for customers who miss cheap fast food and it’s in the shape of golden arches.

Starting Jan. 7, 2025, McDonald’s will launch a new McValue platform. In a Nov. 22 press release, the fast-food chain said the budget-friendly platform will be accessible in any restaurant nationwide and on the MyMcDonald’s app.

What’s on the menu? McDonald’s customers will find fan favorites that include the $5 Meal Deal, local food and drink deals and a new Buy One, Add One for $1 offer. Customers will be able to mix and match their favorite items from the breakfast and lunch/dinner menus to customize their own deals and save money.

International Airfare

At these prices, it’s unlikely your 2025 international travel plans for summer vacation or spring break will result in debt.

A December 2024 report from Kayak revealed that travel to Asia in particular is at its cheapest in three years. The average airfare to Sapporo, Japan, is $1,230 with a 19% average drop in airfare. According to its search data, interest in traveling to Japan is up 11% compared to 2024 with airfare down 5%.

Travellers who want to go to the Caribbean can also book flights for less. Hot destinations like Barbados, Saint Lucia and Bermuda have all experienced a 17% drop in average airfare compared to Kayak’s 2024 data.

And for those who want to visit Europe, now is a good time to book your flight. In November, CNBC reported fares between the United States and Europe are the cheapest they’ve been in three years. Once the holiday season wraps in January, flight-tracking company Hopper said 2025 fares are estimated at $558 compared to $578.
