The exclusivity of luxury has extended itself to gyms. These establishments are application-only, requiring letters of referral, interviews, medical examinations and even background checks on your social media. The ‘elite’ nature goes as far as to not call them gyms, but “social wellness clubs” or “alternative wellness spaces.”

Imagine you and a group of friends needing to apply to one of these locations, only for one or so to actually get ‘accepted’ – it sounds a lot like college applications. The tuition? Monthly membership fees are in the hundreds or even thousands. Suddenly, L.A. Fitness’ $87 per month doesn’t seem so expensive. Here are 5 of the most expensive of the exclusive luxury gyms and what they offer.

The costs vary by plan or how much you engage with the establishment, so we’ve listed them in alphabetical order.

Forma Pilates

  • Session Fee: $75

Forma Pilates, with locations in L.A. and New York, is referral-only, though, similar to Ghost, touts itself for not catering to specific professions. The “boutique style studio” features private and semi-private sessions that comprehensively focus on the mind, body and soul. It’s a hotspot for well-known celebrities and influencers. There is also an online option that doesn’t require a referral for $50 per month.

Ghost

  • Monthly Fee: up to $300

A “secluded oasis of health” awaits you at Ghost in New York. When you’re not receiving private training tailored to you or taking part in Pilates classes, you can socialize with other members in a classy underground space. The founder and CEO, Aqib Mamoon, has stressed that the high-end, highly selective club still values kindness and respect, which might reassure those hesitant about its nature.

Heimat

  • Monthly Fee: $350

The Heimat luxury gym in L.A. offers members-only access to spa services, libations, private dining and even a rooftop pool. They offer unlimited access to “dedicated areas covering every form of workout.” Their Kinesis class features Kinesis One machines, which cost about $16,000.

Monarch Athletic Club

  • Monthly Fee: $595 – $2,000

In addition to the fee, the West Hollywood-based Monarch Athletic Club requires applicants to submit to a medical evaluation, plus a physical therapy and training assessment. Their slogan is “membership without limits,” and once you get past the heavy fee, there is a lot you can do here, similar to Remedy Place. The most expensive “All Access” plan offers compression therapy, percussive devices, infrared saunas, cold plunges, custom food and wellness plans, and unlimited training and physical therapy access.

Remedy Place

  • Monthly Fee: $300 – $2,000

The most expensive membership at Remedy Place, with one location each in California and New York, grants you unlimited access to advanced remedies, including chiropractic movement, acupuncture, medicine and vitamin I.V. drips, lymphatic compression and cryotherapy. There’s also an ice bath studio, an infrared sauna suite and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
