Mark Cuban believes artificial intelligence isn’t even close to its peak, and when it gets there, he said it could create the world’s first trillionaire.

Better yet, he told the “High Performance” podcast that it might just be someone working alone from their basement who accomplishes the financial feat — someone who comes up with a new way to utilize AI and do something we’ve never thought about

How AI Is Evolving

Cuban called this moment in AI development the “pre-season.” He said the technology is far from becoming anything like the sci-fi robots of Hollywood, but it’s already improving how people work and manage their daily lives, and he believes it’s only going to grow from here.

He likened present-day AI to the days of early PC’s when most people weren’t sure why they needed them. He also gave examples of the internet’s early days or smartphones. However, once people embraced the technology, he said, they started coming up with ideas to make money. He believes it will be the same with AI.

Cuban’s Personal Experiences With AI

He also talked about his personal experiences with AI. Cuban said he wanted to compare pharmacy prices between his company and others, and set alerts for when prices changed. So, he typed a request into an AI tool, and within minutes, he had a first version of the software.

From there, he kept refining it by adding more instructions. The tool wrote each version for him. It wasn’t perfect, he said, and admitted a professional programmer could’ve done better, but his mind was blown that the tool accomplished what it did.

Additionally, after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, Cuban began using ChatGPT to help keep track of his medication and workout schedule. He asked the tool to let him know if something he told it to record seemed concerning, and he was amazed that it flagged things he wouldn’t have thought to check on his own.

Still, Cuban doesn’t take AI’s responses at face value. When something seems off, he asks for proof. He compared it to second-guessing a colleague who sounds confident but is actually incorrect.

Overall, Cuban doesn’t see AI replacing everyone’s job. But for people who are curious or creative — or just bored — he thinks it could be a powerful tool to explore. And for some, it might even be the start of something really big, like becoming the world’s first trillionaire.
