A quick Google search may uncover a bunch of coupon codes and links — but they may redirect you to dead ends, or the codes return a message of "not valid." About Honey

Honey was founded in 2012. Once you install the browser extension, it automatically scans the internet for all the deals it can find on the item you’re looking at. The browser extension collects virtual coupons customers can use at checkout to save money. In 2019, PayPal purchased the company for $4 billion.

How Honey Works

To get started, you’ll need to sign up at Honey’s website by clicking on “Log in” in the upper right corner and then selecting “Join Honey.” You can join using:

Next, download the web browser extension. Honey is compatible with the following:

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Safari

Once you’ve set it up, Honey works behind the scenes when you’re surfing the web to find you coupons and deals on the item you’re looking at. The Honey extension will appear on your browser’s bar near the URL you’re at. On Safari, you’ll find a cursive “h” to the left of the web address. When Honey uncovers coupons for the item you’re interested in, you’ll see a number next to the icon, referring to the number of coupons available for the item.

Once you’re ready to check out, Honey will provide you with a list of coupons available. No more having to copy and paste coupon codes — the browser extension will automatically apply them at checkout. And you’ll see how much you saved once the coupons are applied.

Here’s a look at some of Honey’s best features:

Coupon Codes

Honey offers coupon codes for over 30,000 websites. Some of the most popular sites that are compatible with Honey include:

Honey allows for coupon crowdsourcing for supported websites. Besides the automatic tool, users can also add coupon codes Honey may have missed. When new coupons are manually added, they’re saved to the Honey database to help others get a great deal, too.

Watch List and Price Drop Alerts

If there’s an item you have your eye on and there are no good coupons available, you can add it to your Droplist and sign up for a price drop alert. You can add unlimited items to your Droplist to monitor for a period of 30, 60, 90 or 120 days. Once a coupon is available or the item goes on sale, Honey will notify you by email.

Honey Credits and Rewards

Besides the savings you’ll get when Honey helps you find deals on the items in your shopping cart, you can earn Honey Gold. Gold is awarded as a percentage of what you spend. Unfortunately, Gold isn’t available from Amazon purchases, but there are plenty of other websites that allow you to earn rewards. They include:

  • AT&T
  • eBay
  • Groupon
  • Macy’s
  • Overstock
  • Walmart

Once you have 1,000 Gold points, you can redeem them for a $10 gift card, which can be used at:

  • 1-800-Flowers
  • Amazon
  • App Store and iTunes
  • Athleta
  • Banana Republic
  • eBay
  • Gap
  • Google Play
  • Groupon
  • Lowe’s
  • Macy’s
  • Nike
  • Nordstrom
  • Old Navy
  • Sephora
  • Target
  • The Home Depot
  • Walmart

You can also qualify for exclusive offers through Honey Gold to get great deals you may not typically have access to. You’ll see an “Exclusive Offer” window pop up for an item if it’s available.

Honey Referrals

Have a wide network of friends? You can earn more Honey credits when you refer others to sign up. When Gold posts to your friend’s account, you’ll both receive a 500 Honey Gold referral bonus.
