FAQ
Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the stock market.- How do holidays affect the stock market?
- Holidays can affect the stock market as they can cause gains on the final day before a long weekend or holiday such as Memorial Day. In the United States, Fridays near three-day weekends are especially good times to invest, but big holidays such as Christmas can reduce the volume of trading. However, keep in mind that any economic or political news during holiday breaks can make investing more volatile.
- What time do the stock markets close?
- Stock markets such as the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq are open Monday through Friday. They open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. EST.
- How late can you buy stocks?
- You can buy stocks during regular trading hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST on weekdays. Additionally, after-hours trading extends your opportunity to buy stocks from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST.
