Methodology: To find out how much college costs in every state, GOBankingRates analyzed colleges across the United States to find the most expensive and least expensive four-year colleges. For each college a number of factors were sourced, including total undergraduate enrollment from 2022, total tuition and mandatory fee costs from 2023, and the public schools also listed their out-of-state costs as supplemental information. The differences in costs from the national average for public and private as well as the statewide averages for public and private can all be compared to each college to find how much college costs in every state.
