Shopping at Target has become something of a pastime for those who love the brand’s ability to stock unique, fashionable items while still being a superstore that sells everything from diapers to sporting goods. One area that often gets overlooked, though, is groceries. After all, not all Target stores sell food, and it hasn’t always been as much of a focal point for the retailer.
Since 2019, however, Target’s food and beverage sales have grown by over $8 billion to reach more than $24 billion in annual food and beverage revenue. Groceries continue to gain emphasis at Target, with the business recently announcing it will add over 250 wellness-focused items under its Good & Gather food and beverage brand.
If you haven’t already experienced grocery shopping at Target, here are five reasons why you should in 2025.
Balance of Affordability and Quality
Inflation has hit shoppers hard, so finding relatively affordable groceries is important for many consumers. To be fair, Target doesn’t always have the cheapest prices. However, one study by MFour found that 61% of Target shoppers go there over Walmart for better quality, vs. only 11% of Walmart shoppers who felt Walmart has better quality. Meanwhile, Target’s grocery prices are still often less than several other major supermarkets, so it could be a good place to balance cost and quality.
Time/Convenience
Another great reason to buy your groceries from Target is that it can save you time if you’re doing other shopping there, too. Buying a birthday present while needing to pick up some snacks for the party? Get it all at Target. Restocking baby essentials? Grab bananas and cheese while you’re at it.
Even if Target isn’t a pure time saver for you because you savor the moments browsing the aisles while sipping a Starbucks drink, it can be more convenient to do all your grocery and household shopping in one place rather than going to multiple stores.
Flexible Shopping Options
Related to time and convenience, Target is great for its flexible shopping options. You can easily shop in-store or online — such as through the Target app or third-party options like Instacart — and you can schedule for home delivery, in-store pickup or drive-up. If you’re running errands with a toddler in the backseat, for example, it might be easier to schedule a drive-up order so you don’t have to get out of the car. Or, if you want to place an in-store pickup to make sure you don’t forget certain grocery items while still browsing a few others in person, that’s an option, as well.
Organic Selection
You might be surprised to see how many organic products Target has for sale, meaning you don’t necessarily have to go to a specialty grocer if you primarily shop organic. Target’s own Good & Gather brand has hundreds of organic products in categories ranging from produce to snacks to spices. Target is well aware that many younger consumers are craving organic products, so don’t be shocked if this line grows further in the coming years.
Vegan Selection
Lastly, Target has a huge selection of vegan products, some of which you can’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re just looking to swap in some plant-based meals now and then, or you’re fully vegan, Target has a lot to offer. In particular, check out its frozen section for plant-based meals from several innovative brands.
