In most of the states with the biggest median salaries, people who gross $100,000 get to keep only about 74% or 75% of that — which really is what it is for about a third of the states. It drops to as low as 71% in Hawaii and is as high as 78% in Washington and New Hampshire, according to a recent study by GOBankingRates.
