Kroger is one of America’s largest supermarket chains and a popular choice for retirees.
Although Kroger discontinued its senior discount program, the supermarket chain still offers plenty of ways for retirees to save on groceries.
Use Digital Coupons
Creating an online account at Kroger gives you access to a slew of digital-only coupons. Once you’ve set up the account, follow the instructions to link your Shopper’s Card. Then, log in to browse the coupons from your computer or mobile device.
Clip the coupons you want by clicking their “Load to Card” buttons, and your savings will be applied automatically at checkout.
Shop Weekly Digital Deals
The Kroger Weekly Digital Deals webpage is like an online sales circular with special savings on a select group of products. Kroger updates them every Wednesday.
While logged in to the website or mobile app, visit the Weekly Digital Deals page. Clip the coupons you want by clicking their “Load to Card” buttons. You can use a coupon only once, but each one is good for up to five items.
Sign Up for a Boost Membership
Boost is a subscription-based upgrade to your standard loyalty account. In addition to the digital coupons and free grocery pickup you get with your free loyalty card, Boost members receive exclusive offers throughout the year, double points rewards and extra perks like a free streaming service plan and free grocery delivery.
Boost Essential is the basic upgrade and costs $69 per year or $8.99 per month. Boost is $99 per year or $12.99 per month and provides more extensive benefits.
Apply for a Kroger Credit Card
If you’re in the market for a new credit card, check out Kroger’s. If approved, you’ll receive a free Boost Essential membership in addition to a $100 statement credit.
Earn Cash Back
Kroger Cash Back Rewards is a pilot program that pays you cash back on a selection of products you can browse online or via the mobile app. When you find one you want, click its button to load the offer onto your Shopper’s Card.
You can redeem the cash back to your Shopper’s Card for use on your next shopping trip, or cash it out to your linked PayPal account.
Stock Up During Customer Appreciation Week
Kroger saves some of its best sales for customer appreciation week, held early in the spring. The 2025 event discounted staples like Starbucks coffee, boxed broth and many other grocery, personal care and cleaning products.
Boost members saved even more, with up to five exclusive-offer redemptions during the event week.
Order Groceries for Pickup or Delivery
If you’ve never ordered groceries online before, you’ll get $20 back on your first pickup or delivery order when you spend $75 or more. You’ll need a Boost membership for free delivery, but pickup is free for all loyalty members.
